Dana White puts into perspective the ramifications of Conor McGregor using MMA against Mayweather
Throughout the course of the buildup to Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather’s highly anticipated boxing match on August 26th, combat sports fans have continued to question just what would happen if Conor McGregor were to begin using MMA moves against Mayweather in the fight.
While it has been made explicitly clear that if McGregor were to use MMA moves against Mayweather, that he would be sued, Joe Rogan and many other fans have stated that McGregor would go down as a legend if he were to kick Mayweather in the fight. Despite that, many know that the odds of McGregor using MMA against Mayweather are slim to none.
Regardless, UFC President Dana White broke down exactly what would happen to McGregor if he were to use MMA against Mayweather. White spoke to BoxingScene.com:
“He would be sued beyond belief if he does anything other than hit Floyd Mayweather with his hands to the head and body. It would be a very bad – that can’t happen. That can’t happen. There’s actually language in the contract that that can’t happen.”
“If you look at Mayweather, you can include this fight, his last three fights and the amount of money he’s brought in, right, when you go to court any lawsuit is always about damages. And the damages on Mayweather if something like that happened would be massive. That can’t happen.
“Forget about the contract. He would just sue him. He would have a lawsuit against him that would be incredibly – I mean, it would destroy Conor’s life and Mayweather would win. Mayweather would win that lawsuit.”
“It can’t happen. It absolutely cannot happen. Listen, Conor is a bit of a wild man. But he likes money just as much as Floyd does. So if he wants Floyd to have all his money, that’s the way to do it.”
