Holly Holm targeted to return in June against former title challenger
There has been speculation for quite some time regarding when former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm would be returning to the Octagon following her UFC 208 unanimous decision loss to Germaine De Randamie in a failed bid for the inaugural featherweight title.
This week, MMAFighting confirmed reports that Holm is being targeted to return at June 17th’s ‘UFC Fight Night: Singapore’ event against Bethe Correia in a highly anticipated and very pivotal showdown.
Holm is currently in the midst of a 3-fight skid which has seen her drop three straight losses in just eleven months, including a UFC 196 loss to Miesha Tate for the UFC women’s bantamweight championship. The 3-fight skid most recently saw Holm fight Germaine De Randamie in a highly anticipated showdown for the inaugural women’s featherweight championship in what proved to be a rather controversial affair that saw De Randamie land significant strikes on Holm after the bell sounded on two separate occasions.
While Holm is currently riding a 3-fight skid, her rumored opponent, Bethe Correia, is coming off a draw in March to Marion Reneau. The draw came after a split decision win over Jessica Eye for Correia at UFC 203, who snapped a 2-fight skid with her win over Eye.
Several other fights have been announced for the ‘UFC Fight Night: Singapore’ card as well, most notably the welterweight debut of Rafael dos Anjos, who will be stepping into the Octagon in the midst of a 2-fight skid at lightweight in hopes of returning to the win column as he faces welterweight veteran Tarec Saffiedine in a pivotal welterweight showdown for both men.
BJPenn.com previously reported Holm’s potential involvement on the card, however initial reports indicated that Holm would be fighting Ji Yeon Kim on the card, however Holm reportedly declined the fight.
