Dana White shares an update on Amanda Nunes, discusses future plans for Shevchenko
Earlier today terrible news shook the mixed martial arts world as current UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes was forced to pullout of her scheduled UFC 213 title fight rematch with top contender Valentina Shevchenko.
Although Amanda Nunes was cleared to fight by doctors, “The Lioness” was still not feeling anywhere near 100% today and decided to pullout of her slated UFC 213 main event fight with “The Bullet”.
UFC President Dana White was recently interviewed by ESPN where he shared the following update on Amanda Nunes and what the promotion has planned for Valentina Shevchenko.
“Well yesterday she (Nunes) started to not feel good. So we took her to the hospital. Doctor Davidson, you know who is our doctor here in Las Vegas and is fantastic and handles all of the fighters. He did a full evaluation of her and she was medically cleared to fight. So, she did the weigh ins yesterday. She made weight. She then weighed in again the ceremonial weigh ins yesterday where she squared off with Shevchenko. She went home last night, and then this morning she called and said she didn’t feel good. So they brought her back in and started running tests on her. She said she didn’t want to fight. She said she didn’t feel good and didn’t want to fight. She was medically cleared to fight. She was checked and everything was fine. But she said she didn’t feel right.”
Dana was asked for Valentina’s reaction to all of this and what the promotion now had planned for Shevchenko.
“She is devastated. Obviously. When you go through a full camp, not only go through a full camp, but the whole week, the prep, you cut the weight. You weigh in and go through everything and then the day of the fight it is pulled out from under you. It is very tough. Obviously we are going to take care of her (Valentina). We are going to make this fight again, hopefully in Edmonton this September.”
