BJPENN.COM EXCLUSIVE: Hague Thinks Lesnar Needs To Spar Kickboxing 24/7, Picking JDS To Win

BJPenn.com’s Pedro Carrasco talked with UFC heavyweight Tim Hague about the potential of the next TUF season and its newly announced heavyweight coaches, Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos. The fans have expressed mixed feelings toward the UFC’s choice of the new coaches, but with Cain Velasquez and Shane Carwin both out because of recent surgeries (along with other factors such as the StrikeForce Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament) the move was more than logically justified. In short, the UFC had to somehow showcase their heavyweight division in a big way in 2011. With Cain’s recent shoulder surgery Dos Santos was left waiting for a title fight and Lesnar, who just lost the title, is a huge fan-draw every time he’s on screen, so this was quite simply a must for the organization.

When asked about the excitement that the addition of the heavyweight coaches will bring to the upcoming show, Hague stated, “I think it will be good for TV. I’m probably going to watch. I want to see how Brock is on a personal level and Junior Dos Santos I’m pretty sure will come off as a likeable guy, a good coach and trainer. I can’t wait to see it.”

Obviously fans have come to love Dos Santos. His hands are quick and yet seem to be made of stone, his fight game improves every time he enters the octagon, and he’s a respectful fighter in every sense of the word.

Brock is a huge draw because he attracts fans from both sides of the spectrum: those that love him and his “I don’t give a ****” type of personality, and those that hate him with a burning passion. Either way, people are always interested in watching the powerhouse wrestler.

BJPenn.com’s Pedro Carrasco then asked heavyweight Tim Hague how he felt the fight between the two at the end of the show’s season would play out. Hague expressed his opinion by saying, “I think the fight will kind of go the way that the Cain and Brock fight went. Junior Dos Santos is going to throw some quick hands and probably TKO Brock in the first.”

Hague, who is an experienced heavyweight with an MMA record of 12-4, is getting ready to make his UFC return on January 22nd against Matt Mitrione at “UFC Fight for the Troops 2”. He is currently Canada’s number one ranked heavyweight and will enter the octagon this Saturday steam-rolling after two first round knock-out victories.

At a point in the conversation with Hague, Carrasco asked, “Let’s say Lesnar came to you to help with his MMA. What would be the first thing you would do to help him close some holes?”

Hague replied, “I’d probably spar kickboxing with him every day and that’s about it. He has a pretty good handle on everything else but he didn’t seem to handle getting hit too well, but with a guy like Cain Velasquez hitting you I don’t think anybody would really like it.”

With Lesnar coming off of a title forfeiting loss and Dos Santos still waiting for his first crack at the gold the two now stand in each other’s paths for the belt. Brock wants the crown back, Dos Santos wants his chance to prove he’s the baddest man on the planet, and all the drama will build up in the next season of The Ultimate Fighter. The two will meet at the end of the season in a heavyweight collision to determine who will face Velasquez in his first title defense. Will it be Lesnar gaining a rematch with Cain, or will Dos Santos prevail and finally get his chance to capture the UFC gold? UFC heavyweight Tim Hague expressed his opinion. How does everyone on BJPenn.com feel this heavyweight highlight will play out?
