BJPENN.COM EXCLUSIVE: Mike Pierce Favors Lesnar Over JDS

In a recent interview conducted by BJPenn.com’s own Pedro Carrasco, Pedro talked with UFC welterweight Mike Pierce. During their discussion the topics ranged from his last loss to Fitch back in 2009 to his thoughts on the upcoming season of TUF. When asked about the next season of the UFC’s reality show and the coaches chosen, Pierce stated:

“I’m interested in seeing how this season turns out. Most Ultimate Fighter shows I really don’t pay much attention to unless there is really something interesting that makes me watch it and I think this is a season I will probably want to see what happens and see how he [Brock] handles himself.”

Carrasco also asked Pierce how he felt their fight at the end of the season would play out. Here is what Pierce had to say about the heavyweight bout and his choice:

“Well, I’m kind of a Brock Lesnar fan because he is a wrestler and I want to see him win. A lot of people don’t understand that I was actually there to watch him win his national title. The guy is an athlete and too many people remember him as just a WWE guy and they think he is just a mouth that used to be a wrestler for the WWE and he has no skills or no talent. But I kind of like to cheer for the guy, to piss people off I guess, but it’s also because he’s a wrestler and I think it’s cool.”

When asked more directly if he was taking Brock to win the fight Pierce said, “Absolutely I’m going for Brock by just brutal ground and pound.”

This is an interesting opinion considering the dark doubt that seems to be surrounding Brock Lesnar after being badly out-struck in both of his last two fights against Carwin and Velasquez, respectively. Coming into another fight against one of the best strikers on the planet Brock will definitely need to show vast improvements in his stand up game if he plans on defeating Dos Santos. But on the other hand, if Brock can just avoid the strikes and get some takedowns the fight could possibly be his to win.

This is a classic example of how styles make fights. One fighter wants to keep the fight standing while the other wants to take it to the ground. So what’s going to happen? Will Junior Dos Santos get the best of Brock and strike his face into hell, or will Brock score takedowns and pound JDS into an early grave? Let’s hear some heavyweight talks from the fans here at BJPenn.com. Who are you taking in this fight?
