UFC officials have recently announced that middleweights Nick Catone (9-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and Aaron Simpson (10-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) will do battle at UFC 136 on October 8th.
The card is already set to feature a lightweight title fight between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard and a featherweight title fight between Jose Aldo and Kenny Florian at Houston’s Toyota Center. The addition of Simpson vs. Catone is just another exciting added bonus to the evening’s explosive lineup.
The evening’s main card airs on pay-per-view but the Catone vs. Simpson fight is expected to take place on the evening’s preliminary card, which will likely either air on Facebook or SPIKE TV.
Both fighters are on decent winning streaks and will look to extend those runs on October 8th.
Simpson has back-to-back victories over Brad Tavares and Mario Miranda and will look to make it three in a row as he faces the tough the Catone. Simpson has a strong wrestling background and will likely try to out-grapple Catone in their matchup. However, this is indeed MMA, and it’s never truly certain what any fighter’s game plane really is.
Catone is also on a two-fight winning streak after scoring decision wins over Constantinos Philippou and Jesse Forbes in consecutive outings.
The fight should prove to be a fan pleasers as both fighters are trying to make themselves legitimate contenders in the weight and a third-straight victory for either could give them a boost to the upper half of the weight class.
