Staying active and taking fights on short notice is a gamble many fighters are forced to make at times. Unfortunately it doesn’t always work out in their favor.
Former MFC lightweight contender, Drew Fickett, has been released by the Canadian based, Maximum Fighting Championship following defeat at the hands of Tatsuya Kawajiri at last weekend’s DREAM event.
The loss was his second consecutive defeat and apparently that was enough for MFC officials to hand over Fickett’s pink slip.
A UFC veteran, Fickett has spent most of his post ZUFFA career with missed results. After a successful run in the SHINE fights promotion that earned him their lightweight grand prix title, he jumped ship to Canada’s biggest stage and ultimately failed to meet their requirements of employment.
A 56 fight veteran, Fickett has taken on and beaten the likes of Kenny Florian and Josh Koscheck amongst others while competing for the UFC. Prior to his departure, the controversial fighter was holding strong with a 34-5 pro MMA record. However after a stint on the local circuits around the world and an admitted alcohol problem, the one-time top prospect has fallen from grace and the MFC release is just another chapter in the disappointing history of Fickett.
