Two former champs have agreed to face off at UFC 139 in San Jose California.
Former featherweight champion, Urijah Faber has been put against on-again, off-again, training partner and former bantamweight champion, Brian Bowles.
UFC officials confirmed the match late last night.
UFC 139 is expected to take place at “The Shark Tank” that is San Jose’s HP Pavilion on Nov. 19. The pay-per-view event will feature a heavyweight title fight in its main event between champ, Cain Velasquez and number one contender, Junior Dos Santos.
Both fighters had been calling for a show at the UFC’s bantamweight title. Having both fought and lost title fight’s to Dominick Cruz the UFC has opted to put the two against each other in what may very well be a contender fight.
“Before a possible trilogy can be considered between Urijah Faber and his rival, champion Dominick Cruz, he will take on one of the division’s truly elite fighters, former bantamweight champion Brian Bowles,” UFC president Dana White stated. “A win over Faber would be massive for Bowles’ bid to challenge for the belt that was once his. The stakes are high and the fight will be intense.”
Bowles originally earned the WEC bantamweight title in an upset victory over Miguel Torres at WEC 42. However, it was his first attempt to defend his title against Dominick Cruz that saw him on the receiving end of his first career loss. He has been trying to climb the ranks ever since to earn back what he once lost.
Faber is a fighter who needs no introduction. He was last seen in action at UFC 132 in a losing effort to Dominick Cruz in the UFC’s first ever bantamweight main event. It was a competitive fight that many scored on behalf of Faber. He now looks to prove why he is still the number one contender against Bowles to earn the rubber match he has been calling for.

Damn Dana, you really want the lil guys moving huh, you didn’t hesitate to get the lil guys scrapping again! Ha Ha Ha……I got Cruz to defend his belt again easily and I am rooting for Bowles against Faber, so all the hype could wash off of him like it did off Pettis………
PENN NATION!!!!!!!!
both fighters are very equal strikin and wrestling but i give the grappling to faber
I think Faber’s speed and unorthodox striking will frustrate Bowles. Plus given Faber’s wrestling advantage, i believe he’ll dictate where the fight goes. Faber by submission or decision.
Bowles by tko
no booooooooooo!
you suck
Urijah ain’t losing
lol Urijah lost to Mike Brown…look where Browns career is right now. Urijah is overrated, i’ve always seen it.
Urijah got heart win or lose he’ll put on a good show
