Following last weekend’s UFC 133 event, UFC president, Dana White told the media in attendance at the post-fight press conference that, top middleweight fighter, Vitor Belfort has to climb the 185 pound ladder a little higher before he gets a shot at redemption against Anderson Silva.
Vitor is now three-fights into his latest stint in the UFC. All three of his bouts have stopped in the very first frame of action; however, his lone defeat came way of a very quick KO at the hands of champion, Anderson Silva.
After dispatching Akiyama in extraordinary fashion at this past weekend’s UFC 133 event, Vitor would like his shot at the title and stands by his statements that luck favored Silva back in their UFC 126 title fight.
With contender’s in-line such as Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann, it would appear as if, Belfort will need to take a few more fights in order to prove his worth as a number one contender.

Except the Sonnen/Stann fight is the #1 contenders match. Sonnen deserved an immediate rematch. The winner of Stann/Sonnen is fighting Andy next, ESPECIALLY if it’s Sonnen.

How does sonnen deserve an immediate rematch?? All that would say is steroids are the only way to have a chance against Silva?? I completely agree….while I’d love to see Vitor have another chance, Chael and Stann are more deserving of the next shot. But also as a side thing; what does this mean for the GSP/Silva superfight, the longer we push this back the more unlikely it will be to happen. Are we just going to wait until they’re both no longer in their prime before Dana makes it happen? May as well have a Couture vs Liddell rematch if they continue at this rate.

GSP got up to what was it…. 195? While in camp for the Shields fight. His camp said that he cuts weight very easily now and they focused alot on getting him bulked up. Anderson cuts enough weight to make 185 and GSP’s walk around weight would be 185+ easy. Catch weight of 180 at least I reckon
If Sonnen and Brian Stann are the only people Vitor has to get through to get back to Silva, then we’ll probably be seeing Silva and Belfort again almost a year to the day from their last fight, IMO.

Belfort wants stuff without having to work for it, he beat rich at 195 and didnt even deserve his first title shot, he wasnt even champion of the other organization he was in ( i forget, was it affliction?) and now he beats one guy who wasnt even a contender and he wants a title shot? sonnen or stann vs silva or okami first then vitor can fight whoever is left standing, assuming vitor wins his next one or two fights. even with the TRT controversy and anderson’s alleged injuries, chael by far has done the best against anderson. athletic commission/s have cleared him, that’s all we can demand from him. as for anderson being lucky against vitor, well in a fight anything can happen and with as many dominant title defenses as anderson has had i can say that “luck” had nothing to do with it. anderson was the better man that night. i love vitor but saying someone got lucky against him especially anderson is silly.
I agree with Dana. As good as it was to see prime Vitor, the middleweight division is stacked with #1 contender potentials right now. Vitor is gonna have to wait his turn and keep winning against top teer fighters in order to make any considerable noise in that division again. A match with Alesio Sakara or another battle with Wanderlei Silva would make the most sense while Vitor waits for guys like Michael Bisping or Chris Leben.

Sonnen, Stann, Bisbing (till Mayhem whips his ass), Munoz, Maia, and Leben should all be considered ahead of Vitor. If he beats a couple of those guys (which I think he can and will), then he deserves another shot.
Well, all I gotta say is, if the UFC gave Evans a shot at the title after only twins after getting KO’d by Machida. And two unimpressive wins at that. Then Belfort should get another shot after one more win. Maybe against the winner of the Sonnen vs Stan fight.

Vitor n Chael are my top favorite fighter at MW. IMO Chael should have first dibs on that list to face anderasshole, that’s if anderasshole can get around Okami, and Chael can get around Stann. If Chael loses to Stann then Vitor should get anderasshole or Vitor v Stann then winner gets anderasshole.

As much as id like to see Vitor get the rematch, he definately needs to earn the title shot again. People wont be interested enough to see the rematch with how quick the first fight went, though if he wins another 2 or 3 fights like he did his last then thatll be a fight people will be more interested in.
