A middleweight bout has reportedly been added to the UFC 136 roster in the form of Mike Massenzio vs. Steve Cantwell.
UFC officials announced the bout via twitter earlier this afternoon.
UFC 136 is set for October 8 from the Toyota Center in Houston Texas. The pay-per-view event will feature a main event for the UFC’s lightweight title in a trilogy fight between champion Frankie Edgar and Challenger Gray Maynard as well as a featherweight title fight in the co-main event slot between Jose Aldo and Kenny Florian.
Cantwell makes a drop in weight after going down as the WEC’s last reining light-heavyweight champ to go against Massenzio in the UFC’s middleweight division. After submitting Razak Al-Hassan in his UFC debut, he has gone 0-3 inside the Octagon with consecutive decision losses to Luiz Cane, Brian Stann and Cyrille Diabate. He likely fights for his life inside the UFC promotion with this next booking against Massenzio.
Massenzio recently got the call to return to the UFC as a last minute replacement against Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 131. It was a bout he lost, marking his third straight UFC defeat. Prior to getting the call to return to the Octagon against “Ksos” the grappling based fighter took to the regional circuit where he picked up a win over Nate Kittredge.
The bout is expected to grace the preliminary portion of the evenings fight card.
The latest UFC 136 card now includes:
• Champ Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard (for lightweight title)
• Champ Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian (for featherweight title)
• Chael Sonnen vs. Brian Stann
• Demian Maia vs. Jorge Santiago
• Melvin Guillard vs. Joe Lauzon
• Anthony Pettis vs. Jeremy Stephens
• Joey Beltran vs. Stipe Miocic
• Dave Herman vs. Mike Russow
• Nick Catone vs. Aaron Simpson
• Josh Grispi vs. Matt Grice
• Steve Cantwell vs. Mike Massenzio

If this card stays as it. Then on paper this is going to be EPIC. Stacked card.
War Massenzio! dont judge by his ufc record, mikes a freak, huge middleweight with nasty takedowns and knockout power
