Diaz vs. Cerrone To Serve As UFC 141 Co-Main Event

We announced just yesterday that a lightweight bout between Diaz and Cerrone had been added to the UFC’s December 30th card. Come to find out, the UFC has now opted to put the two lightweight fighters in as the co-main event of the evening.

UFC 141 is set to take place on Dec. 30 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The end-of-year pay-per-view event will feature a five-round non-title fight between former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and newly signed heavyweight stand-out Alistair Overeem.

After leaving the lightweight division for an extended time, Nate Diaz recently made a return to his divisional home at UFC 135 and completely dominated Takanori Gomi with a first round submission victory. The win stopped a two-fight losing streak that he suffered while in the welterweight rankings. Diaz has always been regarded as a top lightweight. Having given contenders such as Clay Guida and Gray Maynard all they could handle, Nate returns to the division with a chip on his shoulder and out to prove he belongs amongst the divisions best fighters.

Since leaving the WEC, Cerrone has looked like the fighter promised to us long ago. Currently riding a six-fight win streak that includes four-straight in the UFC, this Team Jackson product has never looked better. Most recently he took out top 10 lightweight, Dennis Siver with a first round submission at UFC 137.

The latest UFC 141 card now includes:
• Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem
• Donald Cerrone vs. Nate Diaz
• Jon Fitch vs. Johny Hendricks
• Alexander Gustafsson vs. Vladimir Matyushenko
• Dong Hyun Kim vs. Sean Pierson
• T.J. Grant vs. Jacob Volkmann

WAR DIAZ but cerrone is still the man!! I’m torn on this one LOL

    • 3ric

I know right ? This is going to be a great fight.

    • ThaGreenBandit

Agreed. I really can’t root for one over the other. Both bring it when they come to fight, and both come with serious attitude and skills. May the best man win, and the loser recover quickly

    • Brandon Wheaton

I agree, I’m torn, just like I was for Penn vs. Diaz. And I expect this one to be a hell of a scrap, like Penn vs. Diaz.

    • Calvin

diaz does not deserve cerrone imo cerrone just beat a top ten guy diaz beat gomi who hasnt had much of a career in the ufc

hahahaha jon fitch isnt co main!

With his boring style (although effective) I’d be surprised to see him on a main card after he grinds out another decision. I’m not a big believer in lay and pray. I actually credit fighters for what their good at and Fitch is a great wrestler. However his marketability’s lacked ever since I don’t know more than 4 years ago when he actually finished fights. Its a shame to see him lose that much credit over the years just because he’s boring. I mean he’s never been the most exciting to watch but I remember when I actually looked forward to watching him fight. Now its just the same cycle repeating itself. Its like watching a movie over and over again. If it’s not your favorite your bound to get sick of it. And as for Fitch well, I don’t take anything away from him as a fighter, but man is he one boring guy to watch. Nevertheless he’s fighting another great wrestler in Johnny Hendricks, so maybe he gives Fitch a challenge at his own game.

It has less to do with Fitch’s style and more to do with his beef with Dana.

Fitch & GSP are mirror image, boring lay & pray snooze fests, can’t finish anybody. But one is Dana’s bf & one isn’t.

This is gonna be fight of the night. no doubt. both are top lightweights but i think Cerrone will walk away with the win. if he does get past Diaz i think Cerrone should get a title shot. Edgar is a great champ but Cerrone has a huge height and reach advantage which could prove a tough obstacle to overcome

  4. Winners: OVEREEM.. The COWBOY..FITCH.. ALEX..KIM and VOLKMAN.

    • 3ric

      Winners: Lesnar… Diaz…Hendricks..Matyu…Pierson…TJ :)

      • Jmad

did you just pick opposite on purpose?

        • 3ric

LOL ummmmmm maybe or they are all so close to call except Lesnar vs Overeem. That one is obvious Lesnar will destroy Reem.

          • lee boi

            overeem????????????????????????????????????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol dude is going to die in that ring. he has no wrestling and cannot stop a takedown.

      • TheXperience

Lol.. Lesnar is not beating Overeem.. that’s nothing but wishful thinking… i agree on Diaz though. I think Diaz can pull this shit off, Cowboy is no JOKE though it’s actually pretty much a toss up…. I’d love to see hendricks take out Fitch (but i doubt it)….
