A middleweight contest has been added to the UFC’s third trip to FOX TV in the form of Karlos Vemola vs. Mike Massenzio.
UFC officials confirmed the matchup this afternoon.
UFC on FOX 3 is set to take place in New Jersey from the IZOD Center in East Rutherford on May 5. In the main event lightweights Nate Diaz and Jim Miller will throw down in a five-round non-title fight.
Vemola makes his way down to middleweight after opening his UFC career with a heavyweight loss to Jon Madsen. The loss prompted his move to the UFC’s 205 pound division where he went 1-1. He now heads another weight class down in hopes to get some positive momentum going in his UFC career.
Massenzio will enjoy home field advantage in welcoming Vemola to the middleweight division. The New Jersey based fighter is on his second contract with the UFC after initially being released with a 1-2 promotional record. He then went to the regional circuit where he earned his spot back on the roster. To date he has gone 1-2 in his most recent UFC deal and likely fights for his life with the promotion against Vemola.
