Poll Results: Did The UFC Hit A Home Run With Latest Show On FOX?

In our latest polling here at BJPENN.COM we asked our readers whether or not you thought last weekend’s UFC event on FOX was a success.

Many analysts from the sports journalism world gave the event a poor rating, but taking to the fans to get their reaction is more important than some writer sitting at a desk.

After all the votes were tabulated here it appears as if the majority of fans believe that the UFC fell short in last weekend’s main card.

UFC on FOX 2 took place this past Saturday from the sold-out United Center in Chicago.

In the main event, Phil Davis squared off with Rashad Evans for the number one contender seat in the UFC’s light-heavyweight division ruled over by Jon Jones and Evans took the win. The co-feature of the evening was a middleweight number one contender bout between Michael Bisping and Chael Sonnen and Sonnen took the victory. The televised main card aired for free on FOX and the preliminary portion was delegated to FUEL TV.

All three main card bouts that aired on FOX went to decision and apparently that wasn’t enough to please fans.

After all is said and done, 72.7% of the votes cast this week stated “No, the fights could have been better for the Network TV audience.

The other 27.3% of you chose “Yes, the three fights featured did the job.”

With UFC on FOX 3 in the works for May and with a Nate Diaz vs. Jim Miller headliner, the UFC apparently feels the same way and is making steps to correct their errors in matchmaking for FOX.

The way I see it, and what would of been best for the fans if there was a knockout a submission and a decision. Give the new viewers some variety. All they saw was some wrestling and a bit of striking.

I have no problem with grappling but all three fights were decisions. If they are to have future events they need to have more fighters with a history of finishing fights. Pat Barry is on the next card and so is Nate Diaz vs Miller so it should be a dramatic improvement.

The way I see it, its because the bisping/sonnen fight was a fluke

    • Jujitsu Player

What does that even mean a fluke? You mean you thought Chael would run through Bisping instead of getting a ridiculous decision victory even Chael himself didn’t believe in…?

I wouldn’t say hit a home run, but it was an improvement, the production was better and having more than 1 fight helped. It still needs a little work and that commentator on the panel with Jones and Couture was pretty clueless.

I agree, i noticed Jon Jones looked very nervous. It was like a 6th grader giving a speech in class for the first time as he kept on looking down at his notes

          • allmightysandman

agreed. they need to get guys on there, mma guys, that don’t sound like they have marbles in their mouth. jones sounded like he was trying to say what he thought he should rather than actually giving a truthful opinion and insight. IMO

      • BigHurt

Bisping lost, he’s a bum. Less QQ more Pew-Pew!

    • Ninja Oreo Dollop

That was actually my personal favorite fight of the main card because it was back and forth. The only thing that would have made it better would be if it was 5 rounds and they finished the fight. Chael missed his opportunity to stamp out that controversy.

  3. I really dont like decisions neither depending on how the match went, But thats that beauty bout UFC you never know, and second could be that knockout hit, so the anticipation the build up is worth watching it every time.

Honestly , UFC should have never signed a contract with a network like fuel TV..they should have stuck with a channel that was available to everyone. I feel like the prelim fights are the actual build up to the main events…going right into the main card is like turning on a football game during the fourth quarter..u lose interest..i was a fan of spike tv’s presentation of the UFC. Especially the gladiator-esq intro they had..it was perfect..now this new presentation is so bad its like they took bits and pieces and just pasted it together. All in all im dissapointed and my viewing of these fights have declined drastically…Condit ftw

I still think we need a third option of it being “meh” in these polls because the issue of the UFC on Fox 2 being a success isn’t so black and white.
