The highly anticipated rematch between Canelo Alvarez 49-1-2 (34 KOs) and Gennady Golovkin 38-0-1 (34 KOs) took place tonight live from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The pair first met last September and after twelve rounds of exciting back and forth action the fight went to the judges scorecards for decision.

Most fans and analysts watching live or at home had scored the first bout in favor of Gennady Golovkin. However, not everyone saw it that way as judge Adelaide Byrd turned in a scorecard of 118-110 in favor of Canelo Alvarez.

Judge Dave Moretti scored the fight 115-113 for Gennady Golovkin, while judge Don Trella had the fight rules as a 114-114 draw.

Due to the mixed scorecards, “Canelo vs. GGG 1” was ruled a split-draw and tonight’s rematch was booked in hopes of a more definitive result.

With all of that said, the IBO, WBA and WBC middleweight belts were on the line for tonight’s grudge match in Sin City.

After an extended delay and some long introductions were are finally ready to go.

Round one was tough to call but Golovkin appeared to get in more shots landing his jab on frequent occasion. Alvarez did land a nice body shot but it was likely not enough to steal the opening round.

Round two saw some good shots landed by Canelo who clearly took the round getting off the quicker punches on GGG.

In round three both fighters had their moments but it was Alvarez who appeared to get in the cleaner shots.

Round four definitely went in favor of Gennady. “GGG” worked his jab and landed some nice uppercuts on Alvarez much to the delight of his fans in attendance.

Round five was very close. Both men landed some big shots resulting in a swollen right cheek for “GGG” and a cut above the eye of Canelo.

Round six was a very good round for Canelo Alvarez. He absolutely pushed the pace and as a result Golovkin seems to have slowed down.

Round seven was another close round. Both men landed some really good punches, including a plethora of body shots from Alvarez who once again brought the fight to “GGG”.

In round eight Canelo was able to get off some big power shots. “GGG” worked his jab and landed some hooks. Another close round in the books.

Gennady’s corner told him he was losing the fight in between rounds.

Round nine saw Gennady start off quickly but Canelo come on strong with big combinations to end the round. That could have gone either way but I’ll give a slight edge to Alvarez.

Canelo started round ten by landing some lopping shots in close. However, Gennady turned the tide by landing a big right hand that appeared to stun the Mexican fighter. I would definitely give “GGG” round ten.

Round eleven saw “GGG” dominate the opening minute. He landed a flurry of shots on Canelo who appeared to be in a world of trouble. With that said, Alvarez survived and came back strong in the final minute. Round eleven had to have been scored in favor of Gennady.

Round twelve was an absolute war with both men standing in the pocket and trading shots for the entire round. Another very close round to spell an end to this thrilling contest. What a fight!

Let’s see how the judges scored the bout.

Judge 1: 114-114 draw

Judge 2: 115-113 Canelo

Judge 3: 115-113 Canelo
