Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya has shared his thoughts after Jaime Munguia fell short in his undisputed super middleweight title fight against Canelo Alvarez. As expected, Munguia wasn’t afraid to swing leather at Canelo, but this also led to his downfall. The challenger often overextended, allowing Canelo to land counter punches. The biggest moment of the fight was in round four when Canelo dropped Munguia with a counter uppercut. Jaime was able to beat the 10-count, but he was clearly outmatched from that point on.

It appears that Canelo Alvarez and Jermall Charlo will meet in the boxing ring later this year. The Mexican superstar has been out of the ring since a unanimous decision victory over Jermell Charlo last September. The victory was Canelo Alvarez’s third in a row, previously defeating John Ryder and Gennadiy Golovkin. Months on from the super middleweight champion’s latest win, he will reportedly fight his last opponent’s brother, Jermall Charlo.

The top boxing promotion had seen its fights air on Showtime, but the premium network is doing away with combat sports beginning in January 2024. As a result, PBC needed a new media rights deal going into the new year with big-name boxers on its roster such as Canelo Alvarez and Gervonta Davis.

It was the first time two undisputed male champions met inside the ring in the four-belt era. Charlo hung in tough, but the bottom line is the power of Canelo was too much for the “Iron Man.” As for Charlo’s power, it didn’t translate moving up two weight classes.
