This mammoth deal, which will span 5 years and 10 fights, is being called “the highest paid guaranteed contract in sports history” by Canelo’s promoter Golden Boy Promotions. Canelo’s first fight on DAZN will occur on December 15, when he battles Rocky Fielding inside Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Another top fighter has failed a drug test, but this time in the boxing world. One of the top pound-4-pound current best, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has reportedly tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol, according to the LA Times. Canelo is just two months out from his big rematch with his fellow top pound-4-pound boxer, Gennady Golovkin. The two first fought to a controversial draw back in September.

Over the weekend, combat sports headlines were dominated by a blockbuster boxing match between stars Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, which resulted in a thrilling – if debatable – split draw. Unfortunately, many of the headlines that emerged post-fight were negative. Many of those negative headlines surrounded a truly baffling score from ring-side judge Adalaide Byrd, who scored the fight 118-110 for Canelo.  In the wake of this logic defying score, NSAC executive director Bob Bennett, who oversaw the Canelo-GGG fight, admitted that Byrd might need a “small break” from judging big fights.
