In the buildup to their blockbuster boxing match, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and five-division boxing champion Floyd Mayweather have exchanged plenty of trash talk. They’ve hit each other with every diss, insult, and jibe imaginable – but according to Mayweather, it all stops when the cameras aren’t rolling. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Mayweather shared a story of a backstage encounter with McGregor during which he attempted to see what the Irishman was all about behind the scenes.

It’s the Tuesday of fight week, but Conor McGregor’s boxing match of the century with Floyd Mayweather just keeps getting larger and larger. The growth truly is exponential. Other UFC fighters are promoting the fight on their respective social media platforms, there are no UFC cards until the boxing match is over, the Nevada State Athletic Commission even threw out their rules, and The Killers recorded a second music video of a song specifically for McGregor vs. Mayweather.  What is it now, you ask? We’re getting so close to Conor McGregor stepping into the ring with Floyd Mayweather that you can practically taste the money flying around in the air. Speaking of moolah, did everyone know that this pay-per-view is going to set people back $99 plus tax and other hidden charges? To some people, that’s just too steep. Going to a bar to watch it is also exhausting, the volume is never right and you’re around drunk, screaming people doing the McGregor strut. This Saturday night, Conor McGregor will enter the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and step through the ropes for a boxing match with undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. He does not appear to have taken this momentous opportunity lightly. Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will be stepping into the boxing ring on Saturday, August 26, to fight under the Queensberry rules in what is expected to break the record as the richest fight in combat sports. Back in 2015, Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao set the bar high with over 4 million pay-per-view buys in a fight that many fans were left unimpressed by the action in the ring from the two boxing superstars. Both Mayweather and McGregor have said leading up to their mega-million dollar boxing match that they are going to bring the fight come August 26. Interestingly, Mayweather’s challenge to bend the standard rules and change the glove size from 10-oz gloves to 8-oz gloves are giving some fans more hope in the fight not ending with a judge’s decision.

Floyd Mayweather is less than one week out from returning to the boxing ring after coming out of retirement to fight current UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor in the boxing ring. Mayweather, now 40-years-old, has stated numerous times in the buildup to this fight that he certainly isn’t the same boxer he was 10 years ago and admitted he isn’t even the same boxer from just two years ago. However, Mayweather has stated that although not the same man he once was, he still has was it takes to beat Conor McGregor in the boxing ring.

This Saturday, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will battle undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., and it’s all anybody can talk about. The fight is expected to shatter all combat sports pay-per-view records, and go down as one of the most lucrative events in combat sports history. Given this, it’s hard not to wonder about similar future fights pitting MMA stars against boxers. On Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, Nevada Athletic Commission director Bob Bennett discussed this possibility. Apparently, this Mayweather vs. McGregor crossover fight will remain a one-off for the moment, but future research into various aspects of the fight could change that.

This Saturday, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will step into the boxing ring to battle undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. The fight is tracking to be one of the biggest in combat sports history, and one that could smash all previous pay-per-view records. Former Strikeforce champ and current Bellator star Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal, however, will not be buying. The light heavyweight and occasional heavyweight explained why on a recent episode of MMAJunkie Radio. In his opinion, it’s too much of a mismatch in Mayweather’s favor to even warrant consideration. He’ll simply watch the highlights later.

Paulie Malignaggi said that Conor McGregor fights dirty and still has to learn about the difference between inside fighting used in boxing and in mixed martial arts. Floyd Mayweather even commented during his media conference call on Thursday regarding the short clips of McGregor and Malignaggi sparring and said that he saw some illegal shots being thrown by the UFC lightweight champion. However, come fight night, Mayweather said that he will do his job and worry about fighting while he will let the referee in the ring do his job and ref the fight.

Ticket prices announced during the Mayweather vs. McGregor world tour press conference ranged from $500 up to $10,000.

It’s 2017 and there are no rocket packs or super powered tubes that shoot us to work like in Futurama, but there sure is weed everywhere. There’s a pot show about everything you can think of: Court cases, a cooking show that only makes edibles, even a show where people get high and watch professional wrestling. That’s when it hit me in the head like a Nick Diaz nunchaku strike, where is the weed MMA show at? That’s why I decided to toke up, put on a headset and created the (Not So) Secret Smoke Show. Oh sh-t, did I just speak in the first person? I sure did, reader. I’ll break the fourth wall too, because rules don’t really matter. We live in a world where Conor McGregor, a guy who has never boxed before in his life, can fight Floyd Mayweather and they’ll convince you it’s a proper athletic contest. Hell, even the Nevada State Athletic Commission threw out all of their long-standing traditions and rubric because f-ck it, this is the biggest fight ever in the history of all human existence. So big in fact, that I had to use the startling opening theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey in my latest episode in order to give it some gravitas, or balls, whichever you prefer.

Former two-weight boxing world champion Paulie Malignaggi has been a common name seen in the media headlines recently. The reasons being Malignaggi’s boxing career tethered to his controversial experience in Conor McGregor’s training camp for his mega-million dollar fight against Floyd Mayweather. Malignaggi is no longer helping with McGregor’s training camp as he removed himself after they had a fallout when less than flattering photos of Malignaggi were released from their sparring session. However, Malignaggi’s insight of what he experienced during the training camp is something the media and fans can’t get enough of.

It comes as no surprise to former IBO and IBF welterweight boxing champion Chris van Heerden that Paulie Malignaggi and Conor McGregor’s relationship ended on a sour note. Van Heerden also helped McGregor out with some sparring for his rematch with Nate Diaz and was at the punching end of an edited video clip that made its way to the Internet. Van Heerden told MMAJunkie Radio that he spoke with Malignaggi before joining the training camp and Malignaggi went in with good intentions.

The mission has been accomplished. Floyd Mayweather played the system to get the gloves changed to a smaller size to push the betting lines, since he’s betting on himself. Conor McGregor gets the 8oz gloves to push the lore of his mystical and mutant power. All parties are happy, even McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh. As the spectacle of Conor McGregor boxing Floyd Mayweather draws near, the media parade heats up. Mayweather is fresh from his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about the fight and said some interesting things. Despite talks of the fight not selling as well as people thought, Mayweather says it’s on track to beat the numbers his fight with Manny Pacquiao generated. As far as McGregor, Mayweather is so confident he will win that he guaranteed Kimmel he would pay back his bet if he lost. It will be interesting to see where the lines shift with the announcement of their fight’s glove change. “Whatever you bet [on me], and if you don’t win, I’l give it back to you. You’ve got my word.”
