In the buildup to Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo’s planned UFC 189 featherweight title fight (which was ultimately rescheduled for UFC 194), the UFC carted the two stars off on an international media tour, stopping in cities in Ireland, Brazil, the United States, and Canada. From the sounds of it, McGregor’s much discussed boxing match with undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. will received a similar treatment. Speaking on the latest edition of The MMA Hour, Showtime Sports Executive Vice President Stephen Espinoza explained that he expects Mayweather and McGregor to do some traveling together in advance of their fight.

Over the next 10 weeks, we can expect SHOWTIME Boxing, Mayweather promotions, The UFC, and other massive organizations to dig deep into their pockets to promote this fight, ensuring that it does indeed go down as the biggest fight in combat sports history. While we haven’t seen much in the way of promotional video just yet, SHOWTIME boxing, who will be promoting this landmark pay-per-view, have already released a poster for the fight, and it’s a cool one.

Unsurprisingly, the news that this fight had been made official sent a shockwave through the combat sports world. Many fans, pundits and fighters celebrated it. The fight is now official. UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will step into the boxing ring to battle undefeated great Floyd Mayweather this August 28 at the T-Mobile Arena in the combat sports mecca of Las Vegas, Nevada. The pair will collide at a catchweight of 154 pounds. They will battle for up to 12 rounds in 10 oz. gloves. Unsurprisingly, this news sent a quake through the combats worlds, as fans, journalists, and McGregor and Mayweather’s fellow fighters took to social media to share their elation, their disappointment, or their (feigned) disinterest.

Undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather posted on social media today amidst reports of his boxing match with Conor McGregor being finalized today to reveal that his superfight with Conor McGregor is indeed official. Earlier in the day, the NSAC approved Mayweather Promotions request to promote an unspecified event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on August 26th, which was then followed up by a report from Yahoo Sports that the fight had been finalized.

Wednesday morning, Mayweather Promotions request to promote an unspecified boxing event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena was put back on the agenda after being removed from the agenda earlier in the week. News surfaced earlier in the week revealing that Mayweather promotions was planning to request the MGM Grand Garden Arena for August 26th for an unspecified event, however their request was pulled shortly after, with ESPN’s Dan Rafael explaining that once Mayweather and McGregor have a deal, they can then request to reserve the MGM Grand. This reaffirmed the fact that Mayweather had not signed a contract to fight McGregor.
