VIDEO | Oscar De La Hoya razzes Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor after arranging ‘the biggest fight ever’
Forget about Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao’s 4.4 million pay-per-view buys because Oscar De La Hoya is claiming that the recently announced fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin is “the biggest fight ever”
“I mean, this is the fight that everybody wanted to see and now, I made it happen,” De La Hoya said on ESPN’s First Take. “So there’s no excuse whatsoever. This fight right here will be the biggest fight, the best fight that people can watch.”
De La Hoya then talked about his own experience fighting against Floyd Mayweather, who he claims is the best boxer of our generation and disregards any fight with mixed martial arts superstar Conor McGregor.
“I was actually very surprised, that I did so well against Floyd later on in my career. But anyway, look, even Floyd, I mean look, after this fight with Canelo and Golovkin, you know I mean forget about “The Notorious One,” uh… umm… Conor McGregor,” De La Hoya said trying to recall the UFC lightweight champion. “Forget about a fighter who has zero experience, who has zero fights, who has zero amateur experience. Forget about that. Mayweather is better than that.
“Mayweather, look — if you want to fight or have a rematch against Canelo or a fight against Golovkin, go after them. After Canelo and Golovkin fight, go after the winner,” advised De La Hoya.
If Golovkin and Alvarez can pull in the big dollars, we all know Mayweather is all about the numbers. Perhaps the announcement of the Golovkin and Avalrez fight will play a part in Mayweather’s negotiations for the fight against McGregor.
Do you think a fight against the winner of Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez would excite Floyd Mayweather over a matchup with Conor McGregor? Let’s get your thoughts in the comment section!
