ONE Championship has it’s eyes on boxing legend Manny Pacquiao
Asia’s premier MMA organization is ONE Championship. And always looking to expand their brand, they now have their sights set on boxing.
Already Asia’s best when it comes to MMA, ONE has already begun expanding when it comes to putting on other types of fights rather than just MMA. As just recently their founder, Chatri Sityodtong announced that they signed a co-promotion deal with Thailand’s WBC world super flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.
Sityodtong now finds himself looking to strike the same kind of deal with a boxing legend in Manny Pacquiao as he told the South China Morning Post.
“I’d love to see him defend his title in the Philippines and give Filipino fans what they want in a mega card.” Sityodtong said, “Manny, let’s do it. We could gather all of the heroes the Philippines have on a mega card and blast it out to the whole world.
What we want to showcase is all combat sports, and we want to get multiple division champions across all disciplines. We want to give the Filipino fans what they want.”
Since Pacquiao’s super fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2015, he has gone 3-1 with that one loss coming via controversial decision in Australia to the hometown fighter, Jeff Horn last July.
Prior to that loss, he defeated Timothy Bradley for the second time as well as beating Jesse Vargas. And ten days ago, Pacquiao earned his first TKO victory since 2009 when he put away Lucas Matthysse in the seventh round.
Now at age 39, it will be interesting to see how much longer the iconic ‘Pacman’ wants to continue competing for. But if it ends up being for ONE and in the Philippines, that would certainly be a big deal for all parties involved.
