Earlier this week, rumors began to surface surrounding a potential date and location for the much discussed boxing mega fight between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor, and undefeated boxing star Floyd Mayweather. According to these rumors, the fight is being targeted for August 26, at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena – not the new T-Mobile Arena. Speaking to Helen Yee, Mayweather’s uncle Jeff Mayweather, and one of his proteges Kevin Newman weighed in on these rumors. While neither was willing to confirm or deny thee rumors, both seemed to think they made sense.

Throughout the course of 2017, talks of a potential boxing match between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather have continued to progress. Recently, UFC President Dana White finalized McGregor’s half of a contract for a potential boxing match with Mayweather. Despite that, Mayweather has yet to sign his end of the contract, leading Conor McGregor’s teammate Artem Lobov to question whether or not Mayweather truly wants to fight.

As talks of a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather fight continue to progress, predictions for the fight have continued to remain split down the middle. While the fight is likely to be the biggest pay-per view in the history of combat sports, many in the boxing community feel as though the fight has no business taking place. Several weeks ago news emerged that UFC President Dana White was able to secure Conor McGregor‘s side of a deal for a potential boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. White then revealed that with McGregor’s side of the deal done, he would now move to negotiating with Floyd Mayweather’s team. Since then, there have been no further updates regarding the status of a potential McGregor-Mayweather showdown. With that being said however, UFC President Dana White recently spoke to the press in New York to reveal that while the percentages haven’t been discussed, he is confident that a deal will be reached. Now, UFC President Dana White awaits for Mayweather and his team to agree to terms and sign off on their end of the deal. With Mayweather promoting his world champion fighter Gervonta Davis over the weekend in the title boxing match against Liam Walsh, a lot of buzz still surrounded Mayweather’s anticipated return to the boxing ring. Mayweather was asked in the ring following Davis’ third round TKO win, what the chances are that he and Conor McGregor will actually fight. Mayweather replied that he thinks the fight will happen and would like to have his young star fighters on the undercard.

Conor McGregor has agreed to his terms for the fight with UFC President Dana White, as “The Notorious” is under contract with the UFC. Now, White is negotiating with Floyd Mayweather and his team on the terms of the boxing match and will look to lock the fight in.

With that deal done, White explained that he now will negotiate with Mayweather’s team in order to get the second deal done that will see Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather step into the boxing ring against each other.
