Throughout the course of 2017, conflicting reports have continued to emerge that UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor has reached a deal for a Floyd Mayweather superfight in the boxing ring. To kick off the year, Mayweather offered McGregor $15 million for a boxing match, which resulted in UFC President Dana White firing back with a counteroffer, stating that he would be willing to give Mayweather $25 million for a boxing match. Mayweather of course laughed at White’s offer, and called the UFC President a comedian. This was following by a pay-per view interview from McGregor, where the lightweight champ stated that he and Mayweather needed to sit down in a room and negotiate terms for a fight. Just weeks following McGregor’s interview, reports surfaced that Mayweather and McGregor had reportedly reached a deal.

With McGregor most recently stating at his pay-per-view interview that he only has Floyd Mayweather in his sights for his next bout, Ferguson may be right. “The Notorious” predicted that the fight with Mayweather will come together toward the end of this year or early next year, which would mean it could be quite some time before we see “The Notorious” back in the Octagon if a bout with Mayweather is truly his next fight.
