Anderson Silva issues statement following win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in boxing: "No one but you can dictate the rules of your journey"

Adam Martin - June 20, 2021

Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva issued a statement following his split decision win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in boxing. Silva made his return to the squared circled for the first time since 2005 against Chavez Jr. in Mexico. The oddsmakers pegged Silva as a sizeable underdog to beat Chavez Jr., who has nearly 60 boxing matches to his credit compared to just two for Silva, but it was “The Spider” who got the upper hand throughout the majority of the bout, and two of the three judges scored the fight in his favor. It was an exceptional win for Silva, and one made all the sweeter after he was unceremoniously cut by UFC president Dana White last year.

It was an impressive showing by “The Spider,” who showed that he still has the reflexes and punching skills this late into his combat sports career. It was a big win for Silva, who by beating Chavez Jr. could potentially set himself up for other big paydays in the world of boxing going forward. Even during his UFC run, Silva made no secret of his desire to step back into the boxing ring, and now that he’s a free agent and able to fight anywhere in the world, there will likely be more suitors for him going forward.

Anderson Silva reacts following victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in Mexico

Adam D Martin - June 20, 2021

Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva reacted following his split decision victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in Mexico. Silva stepped back into the boxing ring for the first fight since 2005 when he took on Chavez Jr. at the “Tribute to the Kings” event at Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara, Mexico. Considering Silva is now 46 years old and was cut by the UFC after three straight losses to Uriah Hall, Jared Cannonier, and Israel Adesanya, seeing him enter the boxing ring for the first time in 16 years and take out a veteran like Chavez Jr. — who is a decade younger and who has 60 professional boxing matches — is actually quite a feather in Silva’s cap.

Although Paul is 0-1 as a pro boxer he was younger and had a massive height and reach advantage which made the fight interesting. Claressa Shields says she wants to be the Bo Jackson of MMA and boxing: "I believe I am the greatest woman of all time"

Adam D Martin - June 17, 2021

PFL star Claressa Shields says she wants to be the Bo Jackson of MMA and boxing, saying that “I believe I am the greatest woman of all time.” Jackson was an incredible two-sport athlete who is still the only person to ever be named to a Pro Bowl team in the NFL and an All-Star team in MLB. Many consider Jackson to be one of the greatest athletes who ever lived, and many athletes have come up behind him who have wanted to accomplish what he did, which is being great at two professional sports. Of course, it’s hard enough to be an elite athlete in one sport, but Jackson proved you can be elite in two, and that’s exactly what Shields is hoping to do herself.

For Belfort, it was disappointing to hear the news that the fight was pushed back, but he is looking forward to stepping back into the boxing ring and showing everyone that MMA fighters can actually box, because as far as Belfort is concerned, what we’ve seen thus far hasn’t been pretty.

The two will now meet on August 28 in a highly-anticipated boxing match between the YouTuber Paul and the former UFC welterweight champion Woodley. But while the fight seems destined to be a pay-per-view blockbuster, it doesn’t appear as though White is a fan of it.
