Morono is set to fight for the first time in 2022 as he will take on Matthew Semelsberger. Although it is a later start than what the Fortis MMA product is used to, Morono says this is the perfect time to return after a very active 2020 and 2021 that saw him have six fights.

Morono stepped up on short notice at UFC Vegas 36 against Zawada as he was looking to fight again. He knew it was a good style matchup and that proved as he coasted to a decision victory. Although he got the win and he’s pleased with the performance he does wish he finished the fight.

UFC welterweight Alex Morono praised “BMF” Donald Cerrone after knocking him out for the biggest win of his career to date at UFC Vegas 26. Morono scored the first-round knockout after blitzing “Cowboy” early and putting him away with strikes in the opening round. It was a fantastic showing from “The Great White” as he picked up the best name on his resume to date. For Morono, to come in on short notice and defeat a legend like Cerrone is one heck of a win. Alex Morono was staying ready for a short-notice opportunity and he got his wish this week. When Donald Cerrone and Diego Sanchez were booked to fight one another on May 8, Morono called his coach, Sayif Saud, to tell the UFC he will be ready in case either of them pull out. Then, late last week, it was revealed Sanchez was out of the fight and Morono got the call asking if he was still open to filing in and he jumped at the chance to fight a legend in “Cowboy.”

UFC welterweight Alex Morono reacted to the news that he will be taking on Donald Cerrone at this weekend’s UFC Vegas 26 event. Cerrone was expected to take on fellow Octagon veteran Diego Sanchez this Saturday night at UFC Vegas 26, but the fight fell apart when Sanchez got into a medical disagreement with the UFC and was released from his contract. The UFC has spent the last week looking for a replacement opponent to keep Cerrone on the card, with a number of fighters offering to fill in on short notice. In the end, the matchmakers decided that the right man for the job is Morono, who will step in on just six days’ notice to fight Cerrone this Saturday night.
