Claudio Puelles was surprised when he got the call to fight Clay Guida. Puelles is on a four-fight win streak and is 4-1 in the UFC and after his last win, which came by stoppage, he wasn’t sure what would be next for him. He thought he might get a top-15 opponent, but what he thought was more likely was for him to face another prospect where the winner would then get a top-15 opponent.

Former TUF Brazil 2 winner Leonardo Santos has issued a statement after suffering the first submission loss of his MMA career to Clay Guida. The lightweight veterans, Santos (18-5-1 MMA) and Guida (37-18 MMA), collided on the main card of last night’s UFC Vegas 44 event.

The Octagon remained in Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 44 event, a thirteen-bout fight card headlined by Jose Aldo vs. Rob Font. The highly anticipated bantamweight main event proved to be a thrilling five round war. Rob Font was seemingly able to get off the better volume of punches throughout the fight, but it was the powerful kicks and right hands of ‘The King of Rio’ that proved to be the difference. Jose Aldo was able to drop the American on multiple occasions during the contest, cruising to a unanimous decision win. It was a vintage performance from Aldo and following the fight he called out former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw.

Tonight’s UFC Vegas 34 event was co-headlined by a lightweight bout featuring veteran Clay Guida taking on former Olympian Mark Madsen. Guida (36-21 MMA) entered tonight’s contest looking to build off his recent unanimous decision victory over Michael Johnson from back in February. That win had snapped a two-fight losing skid for ‘The Carpenter’, as he had previously suffered setbacks to Bobby Green and Jim Miller respectively.

A lightweight bout between veterans Jim Miller and Bobby Green is the latest addition to the upcoming UFC 258 pay-per-view card. MMAjunkie.com was the first to report that UFC 258 will receive the Miller vs. Green bout. The card takes place on February 13 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is headlined by UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Burns. The co-main event was originally a middleweight rematch between Uriah Hall and Chris Weidman, and after that fight fell apart, the promotion scrambled to get a new addition added to the card, and the Miller vs. Green bout was the fight added.

Veteran UFC lightweight Clay Guida has announced that he will be competing on Super Bowl weekend in a fight against Michael Johnson. Guida took to his Instagram to make the announcement that he will be taking on Johnson in a fight that could very well see both men fighting for their spots on the UFC roster. Although Guida and Johnson have been mainstays in the Octagon for the past decade and more, they have both struggled as of late. This is a huge fight for both men as they will look to avoid being released and keep their spot on the roster.

Last Friday night things got a little bit wild in the audience of the Combate 20 event. As seems to generally be the case when Nate Diaz shows up attending MMA fights in the crowd… Infamously known for two brawls prior to this one, Diaz and his brother Nick were banned from World Series of Fighting events for life after a scuffle with Khabib Nurmagomedov and company a few years back. Going even further back, there was the Nashville brawl in Strikeforce after the Diaz’ teammate, Jake Shields retained his middleweight title by beating Dan Henderson.

A lightweight scrap between veterans Clay Guida and Joe Lauzon kicked off tonight’s UFC Fight Night main card in Norfolk, Virginia. Round one begins and Guida is bouncing around early. He lands a low kick as Lauzon misses with a jab. Guida comes forward with a combination that hurts Lauzon. Joe is staggered. Another shot from Guida drops Lauzon. “The Carpenter” pounces on Joe Lauzon with punches and hammer fists from top position. Joe is in all sorts of trouble and Clay is relentless with this ground and pound. The referee is forced to step in and call an end to the contest.
