Dana White hopes Shogun Rua will retire following TKO loss to Paul Craig at UFC 255

Adam D Martin - November 22, 2020

UFC president Dana White hopes that former light heavyweight champion Shogun Rua will retire following his TKO loss to Paul Craig at UFC 255. In November 2019, Rua and Craig met at UFC Fight Night: Blachowicz vs. Jacare and fought to a rare split draw in an excellent fight. Since then, Craig has picked up a submission win over Gadzhimurad Antigulov while Rua defeated Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. With both men fighting and winning this past July on the UFC Fight Island: Whittaker vs. Till card, it made sense to match them up for a rematch before 2020 was over.

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua wishes the UFC allowed stomps

Adam Martin - November 17, 2019

UFC legend Mauricio “Shogun” Rua wishes the UFC allowed stomps so he could pull off his signature move from the PRIDE days. The UFC follows the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts, which do not allow the use of stomps or soccer kicks to grounded opponents. That’s in contract to PRIDE, where Rua became a household name back in the 2000s. It was in PRIDE where Rua finished several opponents — including fellow legend Quinton “Rampage” Jackson — via stomp or soccer kicks, which were legal blows in that promotion. The UFC used to allow them, too, up until the introduction of the Unified Rules.

Pros react to Mauricio Rua and Paul Craig's controversial split-draw at UFC Sao Paulo

Jordy McElroy - November 16, 2019

An opportunity of a lifetime hung in the balance for Paul Craig in Saturday’s co-main event tilt with former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. The beautiful city of Sao Paulo served as the backdrop for UFC Fight Night 164, where a journeyman came face-to-face with a beloved MMA legend. Craig (12-4) was coming off a submission victory over Vinicius Moreira back in September at UFC Fight Night 159. Not only did the victory serve as a bounce-back performance after a jarring knockout loss to Alonzo Menifield, but it marked his fourth win under the UFC banner and brought his overall UFC record up to 4-4.
