However, he doesn’t really care. ‘Superman’ has been out of the octagon since his clash with Dominick Reyes at UFC 281. Less than two minutes into the first round, he scored a devastating knockout victory over ‘The Devastator’.

Reyes (12-4 MMA) decided to take a lengthy hiatus from the sport following his brutal knockout loss to Jiri Prochazka in May of 2021. That setback had marked ‘The Devastator’s’ third in a row, as he was previously knocked out by Jan Blachowicz and outpointed by Jon Jones. Prior to that rough stretch, Dominick had gone a perfect 12-0 which included wins over Chris Weidman, Ovince Saint Preux and Volkan Oezdemir.

The light heavyweight main event proved to be a wild and short lived affair. Anthony Smith and Devin Clark both landed big shots in the early moments of the fight, but it was a right hand from ‘Lionheart’ that sent ‘Superman’ crashing to the canvas. From there, Smith would eventually lockup a rear-naked choke which forced Spann to tapout.

Smith, the No. 6 ranked fighter at 205lbs, meets the No. 11 ranked Spann in the headliner of this weekend’s UFC Fight Night card. Ahead of their fight, “Superman” had some choice words to say about “Lionheart” in the UFC’s video promo package for UFC Vegas 37. Smith heard those comments, and speaking on The MMA Hour, he responded to what Spann said.

UFC light heavyweight contender Anthony Smith announced himself that he will next fight in a UFC Fight Night main event against Ryan Spann. Smith mentioned the fight against Spann himself during the UFC Vegas 28 pre-show on Saturday, and ESPN later confirmed the booking. The two top-15 ranked light heavyweights will meet on September 18 in the main event of a UFC Fight Night card. There is no venue or location set for the event yet, but Las Vegas seems plausible.
