Kevin Lee issues emotional statement following loss to Al Iaquinta
UFC lightweight standouts Kevin Lee and Al Iaquinta went to war in the headliner of tonight’s UFC on FOX 31 event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
After five rounds of thrilling back and forth action, the fight went to the judges scorecards for decision.
The judges scored the fight 48-47, 48-47 and 49-46, all in favor of Al Iaquinta.
Kevin Lee was visibly shocked and devastated by the official judges decision.
“The Motown Phenom” has now lost two of his last three fights overall. Prior to his second career setback to Al Iaquinta at tonight’s UFC event in Milwaukee, Lee had scored a fifth-round TKO victory over Edson Barboza in April. That win came after a submission loss to Tony Ferguson in a fight for the promotions interim lightweight title.
Following the conclusion of tonight’s UFC Milwaukee main event, Kevin Lee spoke backstage with reporters.
Lee was asked what he could take out of a fight like tonight’s loss to Al Iaquinta and what he plans on doing moving forward.
“You know,” Lee paused. “I’m devastated. Embarrassed. You know these sports sometimes have like the lowest of lows. You know I really don’t feel lower than I do right now, but I’ll be alright. You know, I might not get another shot at Al (Iaquinta). I’ve fought a lot of great fighters in my career and he’s definitely up there. We’ll see what comes next.” – Kevin Lee
Kevin Lee has put together a 10-4 record during his time with the UFC. Despite tonight’s loss, “The Motown Phenom” remains one of the 155-pound divisions elite fighters.
Lee holds notable wins over Edson Barboza, Michael Chiesa, Francisco Trinaldo, Magomed Mustafaev, Jake Matthews and Efrain Escudero during his young MMA career.
