UFC light heavyweight titleholder Alex Pereira has responded to Jon Jones’ viral tweets about a potential champion vs. champion showdown. Pereira is fresh off of his first-round knockout of Jamahal Hill in the UFC 300 main event just weeks ago. He successfully defended the light heavyweight belt after defeating Jiří Procházka for the then-vacant title at UFC 295 in November.

UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira wants a rematch with Jiří Procházka over a potential clash with surging contender Magomed Ankalaev. Pereira claimed in a recent media scrum in Rio de Janeiro that he’s likely set to face Procházka next instead of Ankalaev. MMA Fighting‘s Guilherme Cruz was among the first to report the news of Pereira’s intended next title defense.

In the headliner of the historic event, Alex Pereria faced former champion Jamahal Hill. Ultimately, it took the Brazilian less than a round to knock out ‘Sweet Dreams’. However, Hill later stated that Herb Dean’s refereeing played a role in the defeat.

Both men fought on the main card of the historic event, with Alex Pereira headlining it. ‘Poatan’ faced former champion Jamahal Hill in the main event, while Charles Oliveira met Arman Tsarukyan on the main card in a title eliminator.

Procházka defeated Aleksandar Rakić to get back in the win column at UFC 300 last Saturday in Las Vegas. He earned a comeback victory after some early struggles against Rakić, and just months removed from his vacant title loss to Alex Pereira at UFC 295.

It was just this past weekend that saw Alex Pereira (10-2 MMA) get in the Octagon with Jamahal Hill (12-2 MMA) in his first title defense for the UFC light heavyweight championship.  The result was a KO victory for ‘Poatan’ at 3:14 of Round 1 (see that here).

UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira suffered a gruesome foot injury while in final preparations to face Jamahal Hill at UFC 300. Pereira knocked out Hill in the first round of the UFC 300 main event on Saturday in Las Vegas. It was his first light heavyweight title defense after capturing the then-vacant title at UFC 295.

The UFC was in Las Vegas, Nevada for a stacked UFC 300 card with two undisputed title fights on the line, as well as the BMF belt up for grabs. In the main event, Alex Pereira was looking to defend his light heavyweight title against Jamahal Hill. Zhang Weili put her strawweight title on the line against Yan Xiaonan in the co-main event. The card also saw Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway for the BMF title.
