Dana White reacts to Max Holloway’s dominant win over Calvin Kattar: “I think he deserves to fight Volkanovski again”

Adam D Martin - January 17, 2021

UFC president Dana White believes Max Holloway deserves to have a trilogy fight for the featherweight title against Alexander Volkanovski. Holloway had an epic performance on Saturday night at UFC on ABC 1 as he brutally beat down Calvin Kattar for five rounds in the main event of the evening. As one of the greatest featherweights of all time, we’ve seen Holloway put on some incredible performances over the years. But the way he systematically broke down Kattar over the course of 25 minutes was special. It’s the kind of win that makes you want to see Holloway fight for the belt.

Max Holloway: '80 to 90 percent of the world thought I won' the Alexander Volkanovski rematch

Drake Riggs - January 14, 2021

Max Holloway is set to fight in his first non-title fight since 2016. As he anticipates the bout, he’s not too upset about the result of his last fight. UFC 251 in July 2020 acted as the first UFC event to take place on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi, UAE. In the co-main event of the evening, the former champ in Holloway attempted to reclaim his title against the man who dethroned him — Australia’s Alexander Volkanovski.

Alexander Volkanovski predicts Henry Cejudo will return to MMA for "money" fight

Adam Martin - January 3, 2021

UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski predicts that Henry Cejudo will return to MMA for a “money” fight in 2021. Volkanovski and Cejudo have gone at each other on social media over the last few months, especially after Cejudo vacated the UFC bantamweight title back in May after he knocked out Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. Even though Cejudo is retired from MMA, it hasn’t stopped him from going after Volkanovski, in his hopes of luring the 145lbs champ into the fight that can help him achieve his goal of winning three UFC titles. But Volkanovski is busy with other challengers.

Alexander Volkanovski vs. Brian Ortega targeted for February, says Dana White

Adam Martin - December 16, 2020

The upcoming match between UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega is being targeted for February, says Dana White. Volkanovski is coming off of a controversial split decision win over Max Holloway back at UFC 251 in July on Fight Island, which was his 19th straight win overall. The UFC thought about booking a trilogy fight with Holloway after two close decisions, but after Ortega shut out The Korean Zombie on the scorecards in October, “T-City” stole the title shot back. White previously confirmed that Ortega was the new No. 1 contender for the belt but until now we didn’t have a date for the bout. We now have a better idea of when it will happen.

Scott Coker says Patricio Pitbull would KO Alexander Volkanovski

Adam Martin - November 26, 2020

Bellator president Scott Coker says that his featherweight champion Patricio Pitbull would KO the UFC champion Alexander Volkanovski. Coker has said that he believes Pitbull is the best featherweight in MMA right now, and there’s certainly an argument to be made that he is. The Brazilian is riding a six-fight win streak that includes wins over the likes of Michael Chandler, Juan Archuleta, Daniel Weichel, and in his last fight, Pedro Carvalho. Since Pitbull is in Bellator and not in the UFC, most fans and media would likely say that Volkanovski is still the top dog at 145lbs right now. But Pitbull is absolutely right there in the conversation.

Ortega is coming off of a tremendous victory as he pitched a shutout and won a unanimous decision over The Korean Zombie on Fight Island earlier this month. It was Ortega’s first fight in nearly two years since a TKO loss to Max Holloway in December 2018, and after the win UFC president Dana White hinted that Ortega would be next in line for Volkanovski. The champ also seems excited about a matchup with “T-City.”
