Alexander Gustafsson full of confidence ahead of Jon Jones rematch: 'I know I can beat him'
Cole Shelton - October 21, 2018
At UFC 232, the rematch is on. Alexander Gustafsson will take on Jon Jones for the undisputed light heavyweight belt. Jones is making his return to the Octagon after a lengthy suspension courtesy of USADA, while Gustafsson will make his first trip to the Octagon in 2018. Both fighters have fought for the belt in the past, but only Jones has won it. However, at UFC 165, Alexander Gustafsson took on Jones in a bout that is widely considered one of the greatest fights in UFC history. It was a back-and-forth affair for five rounds with Jones defeating Gustafsson by decision.

Jon Jones opens as sizeable favorite over Alexander Gustafsson ahead of UFC 232 rematch
Tom Taylor - October 12, 2018
The oddsmakers aren’t very confident in Alexander Gustafsson ahead of his newly announced UFC 232 rematch with former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. The online sportsbook Bovada.lv has pegged Jones as the -280 favorite for this fight (h/t MMAMania), meaning a successful $280 bet on the former champion would earn you $100. Gustafsson, meanwhile, has been labelled as a +220 underdog, which means a successful $100 bet on him would earn you $220.
Alexander Gustafsson tells Jon Jones to layoff Daniel Cormier, "I’m here in front of you waiting!"
Chris Taylor - September 29, 2018
Former UFC title challenger Alexander Gustafsson wants Jon Jones to stop “throwing shit” at the promotions current “champ champ” Daniel Cormier. “Bones” and “DC” have been trading barbs on social media ever since it was announced that Jones had received a fifteen month suspension from USADA making him eligible to compete on October 28, 2018.
Dana White claims Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson rematch is possible for UFC 232
Tom Taylor - September 27, 2018
Yesterday afternoon, reports surfaced that the UFC was working on an Alexander Gustafsson vs. Yoel Romero light heavyweight title fight for UFC 230 in New York City. While this surprising matchup generated quite a bit of excitement among fans, it now seems as though the promotion is going in another direction. According to ESPN‘s Brett Okamoto, UFC President Dana White is now thinking about booking a Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson rematch for UFC 232 on December 29 in Las Vegas. “It’s one of the greatest light heavyweight title fights in history and I expect the rematch to be the same,” White told Okamoto in a text message.
Jon Jones on 2013 war with Alexander Gustafsson: 'I didn’t train very hard for that fight'
Tom Taylor - September 26, 2018
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has experienced very little in the way of adversity inside the cage. In fact, the former champ has really only been truly tested once. That was in 2013, when he met Swedish light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson in the main event of UFC 165 in Toronto. On that night, Jones had to fight tooth and nail to escape with his title. And while he ultimately managed to win this wild war by decision, many fans feel Gustafsson did enough to win the belt. Today, when Jon Jones’ 15-month USADA suspension is almost complete, and Alexander Gustafsson remains one of the very top players in the UFC light heavyweight division, it seems very possible that the two rivals could meet again in the near future.

That UFC 230 main event we’ve been waiting for? Apparently, it’s in the works, and it’s an undeniably surprising one. According to a report from Ariel Helwani, the UFC is looking at booking a light heavyweight showdown between Alexander Gustafsson and Yoel Romero for the card. If the fight is indeed booked, it will reportedly be for a title, though it’s not certain whether the pair would be fighting for an interim or undisputed title.
Alexander Gustafsson reacts to Jon Jones news, 'let's give the fans another legendary fight'
Drake Riggs - September 20, 2018
In 2013, we witnessed one of if not the greatest UFC title fight in the company’s history and it went down in the prestigious light heavyweight division. That fight, of course, was none other than the clash between the then champion Jon “Bones” Jones and the challenger, Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson. Since then, the two have gone in fairly separate directions.
Alexander Gustafsson is back in the gym, eyeing UFC 229 return
Tom Taylor - August 26, 2018
Swedish light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson was briefly expected to battle Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 227 earlier this month. Unfortunately, this plan was derailed when both he and Oezdemir sustained pre-fight injuries. Now, Alexander Gustafsson is healthy again. He’s back in the gym, training alongside monsters like Jimi Manuwa, Ilir Latifi, Reza Madadi and Hector Lombard, and he’s ready to return to the Octagon.
Alexander Gustafsson discusses "crazy" events that led to UFC 227 exit
Tom Taylor - July 24, 2018
For a brief period, two-time UFC light heavyweight title challenger Alexander Gustafsson was expected to return to the cage at UFC 227 on August 4. Unfortunately, that plan did not work out. First, Gustafsson’s planned opponent Volkan Oezdemir withdrew from their fight an injury. Then, shortly after he was called out by rising contenders Khalil Rountree and Anthony Sith, Gustafsson was forced off the card with an injury of his own.
'Disappointed' Daniel Cormier writes letter to 'entitled' Alexander Gustafsson after injury report
Drake Riggs - July 22, 2018
The once “golden division” in MMA was the 205-pound weight class. Now in its current 2018 stage, it struggles to find a clear title contender. Consistently atop that list is Sweden’s finest fighting son, Alexander Gustafsson.

“I’m in, man [to fill in at UFC 227 for Volkan Oezdemir]. I got a pretty tall task ahead of me, ya know, with [Mauricio] ‘Shogun’ [Rua]. But if it goes well and I get out of there uninjured, I have no problem leaving here and going straight to LA. I’m in.
Alexander Gustafsson is willing to follow Daniel Cormier to heavyweight for rematch
Tom Taylor - July 19, 2018
Alexander Gustafsson wants a rematch with UFC light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier, who he lost a split decision to in 2015. Unfortunately for the Swede, Cormier is currently stationed at heavyweight, where he recently captured the divisional title with a first round knockout of Stipe Miocic. At present, it looks as though Cormier will defend his heavyweight title against Brock Lesnar sometime in the new year. That being said, he has also claimed that he’d like to drop back down to light heavyweight to defend that title in the meantime.
Alexander Gustafsson feels Daniel Cormier is "better at heavyweight"
Tom Taylor - July 16, 2018
Alexander Gustafsson, who is currently the top contender in the UFC light heavyweight division, wasn’t particularly pleased when UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier moved up to heavyweight to battle divisional champion Stipe Miocic. Despite his frustrations with Cormier leaving the division, however, Gustafsson admits he was very impressed with the way Cormier ultimately defeated Miocic. “He did great. I’m impressed,” Gustafsson told Luke Thomas on the latest edition of The MMA Hour (transcribed by Peter Carroll for MMA Fighting). “I was impressed by the way he finished Stipe and how he won the fight. I’m very impressed by the guy, he did great.”
Alexander Gustafsson to Daniel Cormier: "fight me or let the belt go"
Tom Taylor - July 10, 2018
When UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier opted to move up to heavyweight to challenge Stipe Miocic for gold, he deprived light heavyweight number-one contender Alexander Gustafsson of the title shot most feel he’s earned. When Cormier defeated Miocic and set his sights on a heavyweight money fight with Brock Lesnar, he ensured that Gustafsson will have to go even longer before he gets a crack at the light heavyweight title. It probably goes without saying, but Gustafsson is not happy about this. Although he’s currently scheduled for a UFC 227 fight with Volkan Oezdemir, Gustafsson feels that, if Cormier plans on staying at heavyweight for some time, he should vacate the light heavyweight title. At the very least, he thinks his UFC 227 clash with Oezdemir should be deemed an interim title fight.
Daniel Cormier doesn't think Alexander Gustafsson deserves an interim title fight
Drake Riggs - June 28, 2018
In a scarce light heavyweight division and their champion off to challenge for the heavyweight crown, the top of the heap is left in limbo. Seemingly alone as the peak contender is the Swede, two-time title challenger, Alexander Gustafsson.
Report | Alexander Gustafsson's Octagon return targeted for UFC 227
Tom Taylor - June 27, 2018
Alexander Gustafsson’s claim to the next UFC light heavyweight title shot is pretty much undeniable. Unfortunately for the towering Swede, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is in the midst of a sojourn up to the heavyweight division, where he will challenge Stipe Miocic for gold at UFC 226. In other words, there’s currently no light heavyweight champion available for Gustafsson to fight. From the sounds of it, the UFC is now hoping Gustafsson will take another fight before he contends for the light heavyweight title. Though the Swedish contender has stated he plans to be ready to step in and replace Cormier or Miocic in the event of an injury, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto is reporting that the UFC hopes to have Gustafsson fight at UFC 227 on August 4 in Los Angeles.
