Alexander Gustafsson talks potential Jon Jones rematch

bjpenndotcom - March 30, 2017

Back in 2013, Alexander ‘The Mauler’ Gustafsson stepped into the Octagon in the midst of a 6-fight win streak to fight UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones. The fight was an extremely back and forth one that saw Gustafsson give the champ the toughest test of his career, arguably beating Jones despite the fact that Jones was awarded a unanimous decision, and retained his belt. Now, four years later, with Daniel Cormier, who is gearing up for his UFC 209 scrap with Anthony Johnson, currently reigning as the UFC light heavyweight champion, and Jones preparing to return later this year from a suspension, Gustafsson believes that a win over Jones could be as big as winning the UFC title:

Teixeira will enter this fight having dominated the outmatched Jared Cannonier on the main card of the UFC 208. With this win, the former title challenger rebounded from a crushing, 13-second knockout loss to upcoming title challenger Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. Prior to his loss to Johnson, Teixeira was enjoying a nice three-fight win-streak, having tapped Ovince St. Preux, and stopped Patrick Cummins and Rashad Evans with strikes. The 37 year old Brazilian is currently 26-5 overall.

Alexander Gustafsson: Jones doesn't deserve immediate title shot

bjpenndotcom - September 13, 2016

While Jon Jones is busy trying to clear up the messy fallout from UFC 200, two-time title challenger Alexander Gustafsson believes it would not be fair to give ‘Bones’ an immediate rematch once he sorts out his situation with USADA. Jones tested positive for two banned substances in a June 16 out-of-competition drug test conducted by USADA, forcing the UFC to remove him from his scheduled UFC 200 rematch with Daniel Cormier just days before the event.
