Heavyweight legend Alistair Overeem reacts to his fight being moved off UFC 225 main card

By Tom Taylor - May 20, 2018

Last night, news surfaced that the UFC had made an adjustment to the UFC 225 lineup, adding a featherweight contender bout between Holly Holm and Megan Anderson to the main card, at the expense of a heavyweight contender bout between Alistair Overeem and Curtis Blaydes. This Overeem vs. Blaydes fight, which was first reported by BJPenn.com’s Tom Taylor, will now occur in the final bout of the UFC 225 undercard, per Damon Martin.

Shortly after this UFC 225 lineup change was announced, the former Strikeforce, Dream and K-1 heavyweight champ Overeem took to social media to give his take on the situation. As you might have expected, he’s not too worried about the change. In fact, he’s happy about it, because it means his fans in Europe won’t have to stay up as late to catch his fight.

“Just found out that our fight June 9 is on the prelims,” Overeem said in his first Tweet on the matter, evidently somewhat surprised. “What do you guys think of that decision?”

“For the record I have no problem with the decision because now people in Europe don’t have to stay up late and the sooner the better,” he added in a followup Tweet.

Interestingly, Overeem’s opponent Curtis Blaydes also found a silver lining in this somewhat surprising switch-up. For him, the perk is finishing work a little early. Who doesn’t like clocking out early?

“We’re still getting paid right” Blaydes said in a Saturday evening Tweet.

“I’ve got no idea why the change was made, and [to be honest, I don’t care],” Blaydes added in a subsequent Instagram post. “It literally changes nothing, still getting paid and still have a job to do. Only perk is now I get to clock out of work closer to 8 as opposed to like 10ish.”

Do you think Alistair Overeem and Curtis Blaydes’s fight belongs on the UFC 225 main card?
