Alistair Overeem was moments away from a clear-cut unanimous decision win over Jairzinho Rozenstruik when disaster struck. With mere seconds left on the clock, he was dropped by a Rozenstruik punch, which also tore his lip open. Rozenstruik walked off, and the fight was promptly waved off by the referee. As far as Overeem is concerned, though, the fight should not have been stopped. Though his lip was badly damaged, he was still concious.

Alistair Overeem’s gruesome lip injury is a thing of the past, as images have surfaced of the heavyweight’s miraculously healed mouth. Overeem suffered the ghastly battle wound at the hands of Jairzinho Rozenstruik in their UFC on ESPN 7 bout. Overeem was leading the fight, but that all changed in the final seconds of round five. Rozenstruik uncorked a fight-finishing punch that obliterated his opponent’s lips and sealed him the TKO victory.

Referee Big Dan Miragliotta stopped the fight at 4:56 of the fifth round after Rozenstruik knocked Overeem down. But instead of continuing to attack Overeem, Rozenstruik walked away from his opponent, which has led some to believe it was a premature stoppage.

In the US capital, the Surinamese knockout artist was taking on Alistair Overeem, who was looking to climb his way up to another title shot. In the end, Rozenstruik knocked Overeem out with just four seconds left in the fifth and final round to remain undefeated.

UFC Washington went down on Saturday night at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. In the main event, Alistair Overeem faced Jairzinho Rozenstruik in a heavyweight showdown. Overeem was originally scheduled to fight Walt Harris, but due to the tragic circumstances regarding Walt Harris’ stepdaughter, that original matchup was cancelled. Rozenstruik filled in for Harris to face Overeem. The decision would prove to be the right one for Rozenstruik as he finished Overeem with a punches in the final seconds of round five.

Fresh off of a first-round KO win over Andrei Arlovski at UFC 244, heavyweight prospect Jairzinho Rozenstruik now has his sights set on Alistair Overeem. Rozenstruik needed just 29 seconds to knock Arlovski out in devastating fashion. The win improved his MMA record to a perfect 9-0 and his UFC record to 3-0 with three knockout wins, having finished Allen Crowder and Junior Albini prior to Arlovski. The win over Arlovski should put the 31-year-old Suriname native close to a top-15 ranking.
