Chris Taylor - December 2, 2017

Former Strikeforce and Dream heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem took on surging division contender Francis Ngannou in the co-main event of tonight’s UFC 218 fight card in Detroit. As expected with two heavyweight knockout artists in the cage, the fight did not last long as “The Predator” was able to catch “The Demolition Man” with a crushing left hook that sent Overeem crashing to the canvas.

Bas Rutten Breaks Down the Fight Between Francis Ngannou and Alistair Overeem

Justin Golightly - December 1, 2017

Tonight we have The Ultimate Fighter 26 finale, but tomorrow is UFC 218 which is stacked with ridiculous fights. Sandwiched between the main event between Max Holloway and Jose Aldo and the violent scrap of Justin Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez, will be an slobberknocker between Alistair Overeem and Francis Ngannou. It will be a battle between a calculated veteran and a young, explosive contender. Absolute MMA legend Bas Rutten does an in-depth breakdown the heavyweight match-up. “We know [Francis Ngannou] can hit, but if you look at his record, yes, he’s 10-0, he’s never been finished, but in the UFC – and I’m not taking away from anybody, everybody in the UFC is good, but if you look at the records that they have, the guys he’s fighting, these are not guys that [Alistair] Overeem fought. Overeem fought literally the top guys on the planet in kickboxing and in mixed martial arts, so he fought the better competition. And that’s the only thing I’m concerned about. Trust me, Ngannou, when he connects, it could be over because we know that Overeem doesn’t have the strongest chin for heavyweight, and he’s got an incredible punching power. […] If Overeem goes back to the way he was fighting when he did really well, and that is keeping in mind that his chin is not the strongest and that means single shots, not single kicks, single shots, you have one hand at the defense at all times, then I think he might win this fight. But the killer is here, does he get hit? He only needs to get hit once against a guy like Ngannou because he’s got so much power.”

VIDEO | Francis Ngannou Completely Destroys Head Coach at Open Workouts

Justin Golightly - November 30, 2017

The hype surrounding heavyweight’s new beast Francis Ngannou couldn’t be greater. Dana White has labeled him the next big thing in MMA, literally and figuratively. Clearly, the UFC is putting a lot of stock in the young, surging contender. He pretty much as moved into the organization’s Performance Institute and was recently tested to prove he’s the hardest punching man on Earth, which resulted in Joe Rogan singing his praises on a recent podcast. If all that wasn’t enough, take the time to watch his UFC 219 open workout because it is downright hard to watch him inflict punishment on his head coach. It takes a brave man to hold pads for top UFC heavyweight contender @francis_ngannou 😵. Watch N’Gannou’s full #UFC218 Open Workout video: https://t.co/8SLUFNXY3x pic.twitter.com/ahgQoHl2gy

Alistair Overeem trashes Glory champ Rico Verhoeven, challenges him to fight in "big boy league"

Tom Taylor - October 1, 2017

Earlier this week, it was announced that former Strikeforce, Dream and K-1 heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem will be taking on surging French contender Francis Ngannou at UFC 218 this December 2nd in Detroit. While this fight is surely dominating Overeem’s focus at present, he recently took to Instagram to respond to some comments from another prospective opponent in GLORY kickboxing heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven. Hahahah Rico (the comedian) back at it! First saying who’s Alistair and then a second later calling me out for a kickboxing match. We both know that I fight in the ‘King-Tiger league of real combat sports’ so anybody wanting that fame, money – and real GLORY – come to the UFC. I’ll be happy to welcome anybody to the big boy league. If not stay at (little) Glory and keep on fighting in empty venues until Badr Hari is back.

Russell Ess - September 25, 2017

The days of PRIDE are long gone but the fights from the Japanese fight promotion are some of the most memorable in mixed martial arts. With a different ruleset than the UFC, we saw brutal soccer kicks and vicious knees delivered to the heads of downed opponents, which made the MMA promotion set itself apart from the rest. In the matchup between Alistair Overeem and Hiromitsu Kanehara that took place at Pride 28 – High Octane on October 31, 2004, we saw a ton of that classic PRIDE action. Overeem delivered a devastating offensive attack and the fight was eventually called to an end in the second round after the ringside doctor called off the fight with Kanehara suffering a big cut on under his eye.

Alistair Overeem scolds Francis Ngannou for trying to "skip the line," challenges him to a fight

Tom Taylor - September 7, 2017

On this week’s episode of the MMA Hour, surging French heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou asserted that, because no other heavyweight contenders are available for a fight, he deserves a crack at reigning heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic. “After [Junior Dos Santos] was pulled from [our UFC 215 fight] all the top-10, almost all of the top-15 was booked,” Ngannou told host Ariel Helwani. “The only one available was [Alistair] Overeem. He said he’s injured […] and he took a little time for family.”

Alistair Overeem is willing to welcome Anthony Joshua to the Octagon

Tom Taylor - September 3, 2017

Earlier today, rumors surfaced of a potential MMA bout between former Strikeforce, Dream and K-1 champion Alistair Overeem, and boxing heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua. While these rumors were almost immediately stomped out by discerning members of the MMA community, Overeem was quick to comment on them, saying that while he’s not interested in boxing Anthony Joshua, he’d be happy to welcome him to the UFC if it came to that. I had my journey out of MMA and became champion in another sport, the K1 ring. No desire to redo but willing to welcome others into the UFC! https://t.co/Zue6Q2lN2W

Francis Ngannou Calls Out Overeem for UFC 215

Justin Golightly - August 19, 2017

There were two new beasts rising up in the UFC’s heavyweight division and everyone wanted them to fight. That was, until Derrick Lewis lost to Mark Hunt and Francis Ngannou eradicated Andrei Arlovski in under two minutes. Such is the nature of the combat game, one of them is moving on while the other is stalled. Unfortunately for Ngannou, his next fight against Junior dos Santos at UFC 215 has been called off due to a potential violation of USADA‘s anti-doping regulations. He’s not moping around twiddling his huge thumbs though, he’s called out the one guy who is free that he believes a win over could get him a title shot: Alistair Overeem. @Alistairovereem been mentioning my name everywhere . I’m now open and free for you guy . Let do this at #ufc215🔥🔥🔥

Alistair Overeem fires back at Mark Hunt: "how old are we?"

Tom Taylor - July 4, 2017

Earlier this year, on the main card of UFC 209, Alistair Overeem knocked out a fellow veteran striker in Mark Hunt. With this win, Overeem moved to 2-0 over Hunt, having tapped him out back in 2008 under the DREAM banner. Since then, Hunt has had plenty to say about Overeem, calling him a cheater on multiple occasions. On Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour, Overeem fired back at Hunt – and he did not hold back.

Tom Taylor - July 4, 2017

This Saturday, on the main card of UFC 213, former Strikeforce, Dream and K-1 champion Alistair Overeem will attempt to even a 1-1 score with former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum. From the sounds of it, however, Overeem’s plans could have changed significantly on Monday afternoon. According to a post on Twitter (which included some harrowing pictures), the former champion endured a “huge explosion” which occurred next to his hotel room. This explosion, which was complete with a “boom and flames” left the UFC 213 heavyweight rattled, but ultimately ok.

Alistair Overeem will be "challenging" Stipe Miocic with win at UFC 213

Tom Taylor - July 2, 2017

This Saturday, on the main card of the blockbuster UFC 213, Former Strikeforce, Dream and K-1 champion Alistair Overeem will attempt to build on the momentum of a thunderous knee-induced knockout of Mark Hunt by taking out former champ Fabricio Werdum. If Overeem defeats Werdum, he’ll be two wins removed from a disappointing loss to reigning UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. He believes that’ll be enough to warrant a second shot at the champ. Apparently, he’ll be challenging Miocic with a post-fight callout if he defeats Werdum at UFC 213.

This July the UFC will take over the glimmering combat sports hub of Las Vegas, Nevada with its now famous International Fight Week. The International Fight Week celebrations will be capped off by UFC 213 on July 8. At the moment, not much is known about this UFC 213 pay-per-view. From the sounds of it, however, this event might just have gotten its first major fight: a heavyweight rematch between former UFC champion Fabricio Werdum, and former Strikeforce, Dream and K-1 champ Alistair Overeem.

UFC 209 salary report - Alistair Overeem and Mark Hunt earn higher guaranteed pay than champion Tyron Woodley

Russell Ess - March 6, 2017

UFC 209 took place in Las Vegas, Nevada over the weekend headlined by a welterweight title fight between champion Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson. Woodley earned a majority decision after five close rounds of combat that some felt could have gone in favor of Thompson. Both men earned a significant payday but were not the earners of the highest guaranteed salaries for their fight. Woodley earned a $400,000 guaranteed fight purse with a $100,000 win bonus. Thompson earned $380,000 for his title fight competition. This does not include any pay-per-view compensation that is typical of a UFC championship fight.

After KO of Mark Hunt, Alistair Overeem picks his ideal next opponents

Tom Taylor - March 5, 2017

Last night, in the first bout of the UFC 209 main card, former Strikeforce, Dream and K-1 champ Alistair Overeem separated himself from a failed UFC heavyweight title shot against Stipe Miocic by dominating Mark Hunt to a crushing, third-round knockout. He earned this knockout with a beautifully timed knee and several followup punches. “I am very proud, but I am also very proud of my team,” Overeem said of his performance against Hunt (via Sherdog.com). This is a great group of guys surrounding me and we might be old, but we’re not done yet. We see a lot of things [when we watch film], we studied my opponent very extensively, all my coaches do, and I think that combined with my ability, technical ability, athletic ability, I’m able to put these guys away.”

Tom Taylor - March 5, 2017

Last night, in the first bout of the UFC 209 main card, heavyweight veteran Mark Hunt stepped into the Octagon for the first time since July against a fellow Pride veteran in Alistair Overeem. Though Hunt was not without his moments in this anticipated battle, he ultimately came up short, as he was clocked by an Overeem knee in the third round. In the wake of this disappointing loss, Hunt took to social media to address his fans, and update on his condition – particularly a leg he appeared to injure in the second round. See the monstrous heavyweight’s post-fight comments in full below.
