Aljamain Sterling reacts after Dana White finally confirms that he is next for UFC champ Petr Yan

UFC bantamweight contender Aljamain Sterling reacted after UFC president Dana White finally confirmed he’s next in line to fight Petr Yan. When Sterling submitted Cory Sandhagen in the first round back at UFC 250 in June to up his win streak to five straight fights, most fans and media assumed that he would be next in line to fight for the title. But after Yan defeated Jose Aldo at UFC 251 via fifth-round TKO to win the vacant title, White was singing a different tune and was non-committal to giving Sterling his title shot. That led to Sterling taking to Twitter to vent his frustrations.

Aljamain Sterling hopes UFC President Dana White will “do the right thing” and grant him a title shot against UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan. Sterling is riding a five-fight win-streak, having most recently picked up an impressive, first-round submission victory over fellow contender Cory Sandhagen. While this victory seemed like it would be enough to earn him a crack at the new bantamweight champion, Yan, White has been noncommittal on the issue.

UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan has responded after Aljamain Sterling referred to him as a “paper champion.” Henry Cejudo announced his retirement from MMA earlier this year, leaving the bantamweight title up for grabs. As a result, Petr Yan stood up to take on UFC veteran Jose Aldo in a vacant title clash at UFC 251. The UFC standout administered an onslaught of unanswered blows which resulted in his fifth-round TKO victory and the 135-pound crown. He is also undefeated since joining the organization in 2018, with previous wins against Urijah Faber and Jimmie Rivera.

Aljamain Sterling thinks Petr Yan’s record is nothing to write home about, as he slammed the UFC bantamweight kingpin for being a “paper champion”. After Henry Cejudo announced his retirement from MMA, the bantamweight title was open for the taking. Therefore UFC standout Petr Yan and Jose Aldo faced off at UFC 251 for a shot at the title. After four rounds of action, the Russian bantamweight sealed the TKO victory in the final round. He is currently undefeated since joining the UFC in 2018 and has beaten the likes of Urijah Faber and Jimmie Rivera.

UFC President Dana White isn’t ready to guarantee Aljamain Sterling the next crack at the UFC bantamweight title. The UFC bantamweight throne was left vacant after the former champion Henry Cejudo retired in May. A new champion was crowned at UFC 251 earlier this month, when Petr Yan defeated Jose Aldo by fifth-round TKO in a fight for the vacant title.

It was thought all along that Sterling would be next in line to fight the winner of Yan vs. Aldo at UFC 251, and when Yan won the fight, fans were immediately salivating at the possibility of a Yan vs. Sterling matchup for the belt. In fact, White himself said that Sterling would be next in line for the belt after he dispatched of Cory Sandhagen in devastating fashion at UFC 250 back in June.

It was a massive night for the division, but the event left a lot of questions unanswered. Currently, the UFC’s bantamweight title is vacant after Henry Cejudo shockingly retired after UFC 249. With Henry Cejudo abruptly retiring from MMA, UFC bantamweight contender Aljamain Sterling is calling for a vacant title fight against Petr Yan. Cejudo shocked the MMA community when he announced after this TKO win over Dominick Cruz at UFC 249 that he would be vacating the belt and retiring from the sport. Though the title being vacated is not official yet and White has held the door open to Cejudo potentially changing his mind, if he does indeed give his belt up then we would need a new fight to determine who the best in the world at 135lbs is.

The UFC is reportedly discussing a bantamweight bout between top contenders Aljamain Sterling and Cory Sandhagen for an upcoming event on June 6. Sterling vs. Sandhagen was previously targeted to take place on the UFC San Diego card that was supposed to take place on May 16 before it was canceled by the coronavirus pandemic. However, the bout was never confirmed, and when the event fizzled out so did all of the matchups that were set to take place on the event, including the main event between lightweights Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Aldo was forced to stop his training camp in Brazil and ultimately withdrew from their bout. The UFC rushed to find a replacement, and the division’s former champion, Dominick Cruz, stepped up to the plate.

The current bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo was scheduled to defend his title against Jose Aldo next. However, his Brazilian opponent had to pull out of their scheduled matchup due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A pivotal bantamweight bout between top-ranked contenders Aljamain Sterling and Cory Sandhagen is the latest addition to the UFC San Diego card. Sandhagen had been tabbed to fight former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz, but “The Dominator” reportedly was not interested in the matchup. According to a report from Aaron Bronsteter of TSN, Sandhagen will instead take on Sterling in a battle between two of the top-five bantamweights in the world.

It was officially announced on Monday that UFC bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo will take on Jose Aldo in the main event of UFC 250 on May 9 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. By giving Aldo the title shot, it left the other top contenders at 135lbs without the opportunity to fight for the belt even though there are at least four other fighters more deserving based on merit.

UFC bantamweight contender Aljamain Sterling trashed the UFC’s decision to hand Jose Aldo a title shot against Henry Cejudo coming off of two losses. The UFC officially announced on Monday that Cejudo will defend the UFC bantamweight championship against Aldo at UFC 250, which takes place on May 9 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The decision to award Aldo the title shot coming off of two straight losses to Alexander Volkanovski and Marlon Moraes is a controversial one considering the number of title contenders at 135lbs coming off of wins, including Sterling.
