UFC women’s bantamweight and featherweight champion Amanda Nunes is expected to defend her 145lbs title at UFC 250 this May in Brazil. UFC 250 is scheduled to take place on May 9 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The card will be headlined by UFC bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo when he takes on Jose Aldo in his first title defense at 135lbs. Nunes has plenty of experience fighting as the co-main event in title defenses and would slot in nicely in the co-headlining slot on this card.

The event takes place at the Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Va. and will be headlined by a fight for the vacant flyweight title between Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo.

The two first met at UFC 196 where it was Nunes who won by unanimous decision and would go on to win the bantamweight title in her next fight. The rematch then came a year and a half later where Nunes edged out a split-decision to defend her title and beat the Krygyzstan native again.

The UFC has decided to split up the pound-for-pound rankings as men and women fighters will now be ranked in their own categories. Even since the UFC instituted the pound-for-pound rankings a few years ago, they have allowed panelists to combine both men and women in the rankings. That’s led to some controversy, and many fans and media have felt for quite some time that there should be separate rankings for male and female fighters.

Claressa Shields has made it known that she wants to fight Amanda Nunes in MMA and in boxing. If it happens, Shields’ promoter in Dmitriy Salita believes it would be the biggest women’s sporting event of all time. Shields is set to fight on Jan. 10 against Ivana Habazin. If she wins, she would become a three-weight champion.

The opening betting odds have been revealed for a potential MMA bout between UFC women’s bantamweight and featherweight champion Amanda Nunes and boxing world champion Claressa Shields. Nunes defeated Germaine de Randamie at UFC 245 last weekend to retain the UFC women’s bantamweight title. Shields was in attendance at the event as a guest of UFC president Dana White but didn’t enter the cage to challenge Nunes as many assumed she would. Still, White and Nunes both admitted interest in a matchup against Shields.

Nunes earned her 10th straight win inside the Octagon with a dominant decision victory over Germaine de Randamie on the main card of UFC 245. She improved her overall UFC record to an incredible 12-1 with the victory, extending her record of most wins in the UFC by a female fighter.

Likewise, Covington has been riding high on an impressive streak victories.
