Robbie Lawler has no ill will towards American Top Team. Lawler was a standout at the Florida-based gym, which has housed many notable competitors over the years such as Tyron Woodley, Colby Covington, Jorge Masvidal, Yoel Romero, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, and many more. His departure from ATT raised some eyebrows.

Boxing is in the blood of American Top Team’s boxing coach Dyah Davis, and so is teaching. The former super middleweight pugilist really has taken to this coaching thing. Now semi-retired, Davis, 37, still spends his days at the gym. Albeit in a different capacity for very different reasons. Coaching is something Davis always thought he might end up doing. However, just not so soon in his career.

The gym is the home of Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Colby Covington, Amanda Nunes, Dustin Poirier, Nina Ansaroff, and countless other champions and top contenders. When Dan Lambert first started the gym, he didn’t think it would get as big as it has. He didn’t expect to become a top-level MMA manager either.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk used to be the UFC strawweight champ, and for a long period of time, it didn’t look like anyone could beat her. However, Rose Namajunas eventually came along and beat Jedrzejczyk in back-to-back fights, putting an end to the Polish star’s reign. Once Jedrzejczyk was no longer the strawweight champion, some fans began to wonder if she might move up to the new UFC women’s flyweight division. At first, she decided to stay at strawweight for her next fight, in which she defeated Tecia Torres by decision. Then, an opportunity came up for Jedrzejczyk to fight for the flyweight title against Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 231. But unfortunately for Jedrzejczyk and her fans, Shevchenko won this fight via unanimous decision.

At UFC 235 Tyron Woodley will defend his welterweight title. However, it will not be against Colby Covington, rather he will take on Kamaru Usman. To many, the news was surprising given Covington was the interim welterweight champion and seemed to be next in line. But, according to American Top Team owner Dan Lambert, Covington was skipped because he turned down a fight for possibly another interim title.

American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida, and JacksonWink MMA in Albuquerque, New Mexico are two of the biggest and most successful MMA gyms in the world. Both gyms have produced a long list of UFC champions, and countless UFC contenders. Unfortunately, both are currently without Instagram accounts thanks to the UFC.
