That’s according to the website MMADecisions.com, which compiles all the scorecards from MMA judges, MMA media, and the fans. According to the research done by the site, the Arlovski vs. Sakai fight was the most disputed and controversial decision of the year.

Walt Harris accepts USADA sanction, win over Arlovski overturned

UFC heavyweight Walt Harris has accepted a four-month sanction from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) after testing positive for the anabolic agent LGD-4033. In addition, Harris’ UFC 232 split decision victory over former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski has been overturned to a no-contest. USADA announced this news in a release, explaining that Harris’ violation was the result of his use of a tainted supplement:

This unprecedented move has caused headaches for some of the fighters on the UFC 232 bill, but Andrei Arlovski, who battles Walt Harris on the undercard, hasn’t been bothered by it. Instead, Arlovski actually feels thankful toward Dana White and the UFC for finding a way to keep the UFC 232 card intact.

Round one begins and both men appear happy to stand and bang early on. Left hands connect for both fighter. Tai with a hard low kick. Arlovski responds with one of his own. Andrei with a jab. Tuivasa chases after him and wins Andrei trips and falls to the floor. Tai winds up in full mount. He postures up and looks to rain down punches but Andrei scrambles and gets back to his feet. Arlovski on the move now. He presses Tai against the cage. Tuivasa breaks free. Both men begin to stand and trade. Arlovski lands a nice right hand. That landed flush. Tai retreats and Arlovski is quick to move in. The fighters clinch and then break. The horn sounds to end round one.

Coming off his violent, first-round finish at UFC 221, it looks like he’s ready for his next opponent with a step up in competition. Not only that, but he’s trying to bring excitement back to a dead division. “[The heavyweight division is] boring. Heavyweights that I used to watch, you know, it would be one or two big punches, just exciting, big hits. Now I think it’s just – they’re all just going out there and f-cking sh-t. It’s boring. I feel like I’m watching the soccer or something. Oh yeah, [there’s Francis Ngannou] but that’s one guy. I’m talking about the division.”

On Saturday night, on the main card of the UFC’s exciting stop in Norfolk, Virginia, former UFC heavyweight champion and long-time heavyweight contender Andrei Arlovski returned to the cage. The Belarusian legend’s opponent was rising Brazilian Junior Albini. Given that Arlovski stepped into the cage on a career-worst five-fight losing streak, this was a pretty clear make-or-break fight for him. Luckily, the former champ was able to do what was needed, out-striking his foe to a sound unanimous decision win after three rounds of action.

A heavyweight scrap between Junior Albini and former division champion Andrei Arlovski took place on tonight’s UFC Fight Night card in Norfolk, Virginia. Round one begins and Albini charges forward with punches. Arlovski circles out but Junior stays on him with another flurry. Arlovski connects with a right hand that immediately gets the attention of Albini. Junior misses with a wild right and Andrei connects with a left. Arlovski goes to the body with a punch. Junior clinches up and presses Andrei against the cage. He works in some knees from the position. The fighters break and Arlovski connects with a right hand over the top. He follows that up with a pair of hard low kicks. Another overhand right from Andrei. Junior presses forward and lands a left hand followed by a knee. Arlovski rips the body but then gets countered with a hook. Junior shoots in and presses Andrei back up against the cage. He works in a knee. Arlovski returns fire with one of his own. Albini lands an elbow as the fighters break. Both men are swinging wildly. The horn sounds to end round one.

The second is “The Fireball Kid” Takanori Gomi – the first and only man to hold the PRIDE lightweight title, and one of the greatest lightweights in MMA history. Arlovski will make his return to the Octagon against 31-year-old Polish prospect Marcin Tybura.

The first quarter of 2017 will be a big stretch for the heavyweight division, as the UFC has pencilled two huge heavyweight scraps onto the calendar. These fights will see the division’s two best prospects take big steps up in competition against well established names. The first of these heavyweight showdowns will occur on January 28, at UFC on Fox 23, when French-Cameroonian destroyer Francis Ngannou gets the biggest test of his career in former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski. The second will occur just weeks later, when massive Texan Derrick Lewis faces what could be his biggest test in fringe contender Travis Browne. Lewis and Browne will duke it out on February 11, at UFC 208 in Brooklyn.
