Antonio Carlos Junior injury moves Elias Theodorou fight from UFC Sao Paulo to UFC 231
UFC Sao Paulo can’t seem to catch a break. First, it lost its original main event with the loss of Glover Teixeira and just yesterday the co-main took a hit as well.
But the ever so cruel injury bug wouldn’t stop his reign of terror there…
MMAFighting confirms that “Shoeface” Antonio Carlos Junior (10-2) has been injured out of his scheduled middleweight contest with Elias Theodorou (15-2) for the September 22 event.
Tarso Doria of MMABrasil has since reported that the fight will now be pushed back to December 8 for UFC 231 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Cara de Sapato and Elias Theodorou are going to be rescheduled to UFC 231, sources tell me. Bunch of names were in the table to replace the BJJ ace, but UFC will stick with the fight. #UFC231 #UFCSAOPAULO

This past weekend at UFC Lincoln, Eryk Anders scored a sensational knockout victory over Tim Williams to kick off the main card.
In his post-fight interview, Anders targetted Theodorou as the person he wants to square off with next. Because of that, he became an instant candidate to fill in for Carlos Junior here at UFC Sao Paulo.
Theodorou quickly hinted that Anders may have turned down this possibility.
I can confirm Eryk Anders "Anyone, anytime and anywhere" does not include Elias Theodorou, Sept 22nd in Sao Paulo, Brazil. ☕🐸 #smh

Both Theodorou and Carlos Junior have fought once this year and their fights came around the same time.
For the Brazilian, Carlos Junior, he took on and defeated Tim Boetsch at UFC on Fox 29 in April where he would score his third straight rear-naked choke (his fifth consecutive win).
Theodorou last fought in May for the UFC’s debut in Liverpool where he would defeat Trevor Smith via unanimous decision thus extending his win streak to two.
