Coach: ‘Kimbo Slice Has Some Big Balls’

Kimbo Slice stepped into the cage on Friday night with victory on his mind, and he walked out with his hands held high. It wasn’t without issues, however. His opponent, MMA icon Ken Shamrock, took Slice down in the opening minutes and locked in a tight rear naked choke.

Slice looked like he contemplated tapping out, but he was simply waiting for the right opportunity to turn out of the hold. He spun out, made it back to his feet, and blasted Shamrock into a daze. Slice landed a couple more unblocked shots and the referee stopped the action before Shamrock took any unnecessary punishment.

His coach at American Top Team, former WEC Champion Mike Brown, said that Slice capitalized on the only opportunity he had to escape the submission hold. “I thought it was going to be tough to dig out of this one,” Brown told Sherdog. “That’s nearly checkmate. You’ve got one opportunity to get out of there, and he found that way.”

“I think one of his best attributes is he’s a gamer, man. He shows up fight day and never says die,” Brown continued. “He’s just one of those guys that knows how to show up and fight well on fight night. Obviously he has big power in his hands, big balls and is very confident. He’s coming after you, no f*****g around and trying to take you out.”
