Former Pride Boss: ‘Fedor’s Opponent Will Mean Something For Future Of MMA’
At this past Saturday’s Bellator ‘Dynamite’ event it was announced that Fedor Emelianenko will be headlining an event in Japan, put one by the former boss of PRIDE FC, Nobuyuki Sakakibara, on New Years Eve. The card will air on Spike TV.
It seemed like the popular thought was that he’d finally sign with the UFC, but everyone was duped.
Sakakibara recently talked to rsport.ru about the signing and the event, as well as Fedor’s yet to be announced opponent.
“I am extremely pleased to be able to introduce a new platform for mixed martial arts in Japan. And it is a great honor for me that Fedor chose our organization for his return. I think we will be able to create a great show.”
“The name of the opponent is not currently confirmed, but Fedor said he was willing to go against anyone. Now we have a lot of fighters from around the world who would like to challenge Fedor. But we would like to select a fighter who will mean something for the future of mixed martial arts.”
His opponent will mean something for the future of MMA? That’s a pretty bold statement. Who do you think Fedor will end up fighting in Japan?
