In First Bellator Fight Thomson Made 7 Times More In Sponsor Pay Than With Reebok

By BJPENN.COM News - September 23, 2015

Former UFC lightweight Josh Thomson made his Bellator debut this past Saturday at the ‘Dynamite’ event and won, submitting Mike Bronzoulis in the third round.

Thomson has had nothing but great things to say about his new home and apparently, according to MMAFighting, he also faired much better with sponsorship money than he would have in the UFC.

Under the UFC’s Reebok pay system, Thomson would have made $5,000 for a fight, having seven fights under the Zuffa banner.

He apparently claims to have made $35,000 from just three of his sponsors for his Bellator debut. $35K vs. $5K, yeah I’m pretty sure he made the right choice. He made seven times what he would have made with the Reebok deal. This a perfect example of how the deal has effected a lot of fighters.

Do you think more UFC fighters will start jumping ship in order to earn more?
