Royce Gracie speaks on MMA return

Last month it was announced that Royce Gracie would be returning to MMA for a trilogy fight against Ken Shamrock under the Bellator MMA banner in February. While Gracie has been away from MMA competition since 2007, he’s ready to show that at 48 years old he still has what it takes to compete professionally.

UFC President took in some questions from media and fans prior to UFC 193 going down in Melbourne, Australia. One of the questions asked was about the Bellator 149 announced fight between 48-year-old Royce Gracie versus 51-year-old Ken Shamrock. The news of the latest card announced by Bellator has been buzzing with some very interesting fights. One bout on Bellator 149 that has a lot of fans talking about is between Kimbo Slice and Dhafir Harris who goes by the name Dada 5000. For someone flipping through the TV Guide, an alluring program to tune in on simply due to the unique names involved would definitely be Kimbo Slice versus Dada 5000. Kimbo spoke with MMA Fighting on his beef with Dada 5000, who gained some status through a Netflix documentary “Dawg Fight.”

Friday night Bellator MMA broadcasted live from St. Louis Missouri. Bellator 145 was headlined by 2 title fights on Spike TV, whereas UFC: Fight Night Sao Paulo featured a trilogy bout between Vitor Belfort and Dan Henderson. The totals are in, and according to MMAFighting Bellator 145 beat out UFC FN: Sao Paulo.

Will Brooks apologizes for hotel scuffle with Freire brothers

Leading up to the Bellator 145 weigh-ins, Bellator lightweight champion Will Brooks was involved in a scuffle with the Freire brothers in the hotel where the fighters were staying at. Following his unanimous decision win over Marcin Held at Bellator 145, Will Brooks apologized to fans for the scuffle:

Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson is currently engaged in a legal battle that will decide whether or not the MMA legend will be forced to remain in his contract with Bellator MMA, or return to the UFC. Because of the legal battle, many were surprised to discover that Rampage was in attendance at Bellator 145 last night.

In the main event of Bellator 145 Daniel Straus put a beating on Bellator champion Patricio Freire. Freire attempted to put on a late-fight comeback where he secured back control and attempted to get a rear naked choke, however Straus showed his heart and survived the remainder of the 5th round.

During Bellator 145, Kurt Angle made a major announcement on behalf of Bellator President Scott Coker. It was announced that Kimbo Slice would fight Dada 5000 in the co-main event of a February 19th card, and that Ken Shamrock would fight Royce Gracie in the main event.

It was a quick one, but boy was it impressive! Bobby Lashley came out of the gate quick and secured a fast takedown. He then poured the group and pound strikes on James Thompson until the referee stopped the fight, earning Lashley a 1st round TKO.

After 3 hard fought rounds of action, we went to the judges scorecards for a razor thin decision that ultimately came down to how the judges scored the 2nd round.

It was the professional debut of Jeff Crotty on the preliminary card of Bellator 145. After a close 1st round, Crotty survived the remainder of the fight, taking Garrett Gross to a decision which ultimately saw Garrett Gross awarded the unanimous decision win.
