All did not go well at today’s Bellator 143 weigh-ins. Actually everyone managed to make weight, except one. But that one missed weight by a lot, and I mean a lot. Nick Gonzalez, who was scheduled to fight Ryan Couture in a lightweight fight (lightweight!), ended up stepping on the scale and coming in at 172.75. To be clear, that’s missing weight for a welterweight fight as well. I mean, there’s bad weight cuts and then there’s not even giving a damn.

Are you trying to wrap your mind around Fedor’s decision to once again forgo a contract with the UFC? Well, it sounds like he had quite a few reasons to do so, like 2.5 million reasons to do so. According to a report from veteran and well trusted journalist Dave Meltzer, the fighter is set to earn $2.5 million for his fight in Japan, which will take place on New Years Eve.

On Friday night, live on Spike TV, Bellator 143 will go down and feature a main event between two top bantamweights, with former champ Joe Warren taking on L.C. Davis. The fight could very well determine the next title challenger. In the co-main we are likely in for a war when former UFC fighters Kendall Grove and Joey Beltran meet in the Bellator cage.

Ryan Couture may have simply been known as “the son of UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture” when he made his professional mixed martial arts debut in 2010, but the lightweight is starting to step out of his father’s shadow and create a unique following of his own. While his father competed mainly for the UFC, Ryan has become a bit of a journeyman in MMA, learning lessons while fighting for both Strikeforce and UFC. Couture now calls Bellator his home and will be fighting for the promotion this Friday at “Bellator 143” when he steps into the cage to square off with Nick Gonzalez.

At Bellator ‘Dynamite’ MMA legend Tito Ortiz took on undefeated light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary in the night’s main event. Early in the fight it looked like everything was going Tito’s way. He got a quick takedown and started working his top game. It seemed like might be another Tito Ortiz ground and pound clinic, then he got caught.

Former UFC light heavyweight and current Bellator MMA fighter Phil Davis made quite the debut this past weekend at the massive ‘Dynamite’ event. Davis was one of four fighters in the one-night tournament. Davis took out former champ Emanuel Newton in the first fight, advancing to the final. In the other first round fight, ‘King Mo’ Lawal came out on top. So, Davis knew he would be fighting Lawal in the night’s co-main event. That is, until a last-minute change occurred.

“The Baddest Man on the Planet” Joe Warren has his sights set on what he feels is rightfully his: The Bellator Bantamweight Championship. First, Warren will have to make his way through former WEC fighter L.C. Davis this Friday in the main-event of Bellator 143 in Hidalgo, Texas. Long before names like Josh Thomson, Phil Davis and Kimbo Slice made their way to Bellator, Joe Warren was one of the foundations of the young company. The Olympian made his promotional debut back at Bellator 13 in 2010 with a dominant victory over Eric Marriott. Since then, he has gone on to capture the attention of fans and media alike with his unique pre-fight talk. While some would call his pre-fight banter “trash talk”, Warren states it’s more of a warning of fact than anything.

Ahead of that fight Grove talked about the hottest topic in MMA, the controversial five year suspension handed to Nick Diaz by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Fedor Emelianenko was in the house at this past Saturday’s Bellator ‘Dynamite’ event in San Jose, California and apparently took photos with everyone in the arena. I mean, it’s not everyday you run into an MMA legend like Fedor, so of course you’re going to ask to take a picture. One of the photos making its way around the web is of Fedor standing next to Cris Cyborg’s pole dancing instructor.

Former UFC lightweight and Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson made his promotional debut for Bellator MMA this past Saturday in front of his home crowd. It was a winning effort and afterwards Thomson had nothing but great things to say about his new boss and new promotion, which he considers to be like a family, something that was missing from the UFC.

At this past Saturday’s Bellator ‘Dynamite’ event it was announced that Fedor Emelianenko will be headlining an event in Japan, put one by the former boss of PRIDE FC, Nobuyuki Sakakibara, on New Years Eve. The card will air on Spike TV. It seemed like the popular thought was that he’d finally sign with the UFC, but everyone was duped.

This past weekend, at Bellator ‘Dynamite’, fans who tuned in were treated to fireworks, Crazy Pride lady, kickboxing and MMA. We also saw a one-night light heavyweight tournament, featuring four of the promotions best 205’ers. Former UFC fighter Phil Davis ended up winning the whole thing and will now face the champ, Liam McGeary, next.

This past Saturday we finally got to see what Bellator’s ‘Dynamite’ event would actually look like. There were a lot of questions leading into the cross promoted event, featuring both MMA fights in a cage and GLORY kickboxing matches in a ring. The night also featured an old school one-night tournament in which former UFC fighter Phil Davis ended up winning. In the night’s main event champ Liam McGeary took on MMA vet Tito Ortiz. Ortiz seemed to have control of the fight, taking Liam down and working from top position, but eventually got trapped in an inverted triangle and tapped out.

The event, which featured GLORY kickboxing and MMA action also had a four-man, one-night light heavyweight tournament, debuts of Josh Thomson and Phil Davis, and a main event between champ Liam McGeary and Tito Ortiz.
