Boxing Beat: Floyd Mayweather Dumps Golden Boy

Legendary Prizefighter Floyd Mayweather ended his 7-year relationship with Golden Boy Promotions yesterday. This comes on the heels of GBP co-founder and CEO Richard Schaefer resigning as well.

Mayweather Promotions CEO Larry Ellerbe spoke to ESPN.com about Mayweather’s split from the promotion as well as on his relationship with Richard Schaefer.

“We have a great working relationship with Richard Schaefer and that will never change. Richard is a good friend and a great businessman and an excellent promoter . . . He built that company from the ground up and did a phenomenal job.”

Rumors have circulated for some time now that Richard Schaefer would potentially be leaving GBP to start his own promotion. Only time will tell if those rumors hold true.
