Boxing Beat: ‘Golden Boy’ Oscar De La Hoya Checks Into Substance Abuse Rehab Facility
Beloved 40-year old boxing legend, Oscar De La Hoya, has checked himself into a substance abuse rehab facility and will miss this weekend’s Mayweather vs. Canelo super-fight.
The former world boxing champion, turned promoter, has a long history of alcohol and drug addiction and the Los Angeles born ‘Golden Boy’ has apparently had enough and is taking steps to get clean.
Earlier today De La hoya released the following statement:
“Canelo Alvarez and I have big fights coming up this weekend. His is the ring and mine in treatment. will not be at the fight this Saturday to cheer Canelo to victory since I have voluntarily admitted myself into a treatment facility. I explained this to Canelo and he understood that my health and longterm recovery from my disease must come first. Thank you for your understanding. I ask for your support and privacy during this difficult time for me and my family.”
Good Luck Oscar!!!
