Last night, on the main card of the UFC’s latest trip to London, UK MMA legend Brad Pickett stepped onto the canvas for a final time. His opponent in this retirement fight was late-replacement Marlon “Chito” Vera, a young but dangerous out for pretty much any fighter in the division. Though Pickett won the first two rounds of the fight, and seemed to be in control heading into the third, his retirement fight was ultimately spoiled by a beautiful, late-fight head-kick from the young Vera. In the wake of this fight, Pickett joined the media for a short press conference to discuss his failed retirement fight, sharing his belief that, were he a little younger, he would have absorbed Vera’s fight-ending strike without issue.

UFC bantamweight veteran Brad Pickett retired following his UFC Fight Night 107 TKO loss to Marlon Vera last night in London, England. Pickett had a strong opening two rounds utilizing some timely takedowns and ground and pound to get up on the judges scorecards 20-18 heading into round three.

On this week’s episode of The MMA Hour, long-time bantamweight contender Urijah Faber made the somewhat surprising announcement that his recently announced bout with England’s Brad Pickett will be the last of his career. This Faber swan song will occur on December 17 in Sacremento, California – the home of his renowned gym, Team Alpha Male. “I’ve been kind of waiting for this,” Faber said to host Ariel Helwani on the show. “This is actually going to be my last fight. And it just feels right to do it in [Sacramento] in this new arena. It just feels like the right time and the right place. I’ve been waiting for this new arena to be built, I was waiting for that Dominick Cruz opportunity, and I feel like this is going to be an epic event and I can’t wait to do it in front of the people I love.”

After Mike Tyson’s KO victory over Clifford Etienne in 2003, ‘Iron Mike’ infamously stated that he broke his back during training. Brad Pickett could be delivering a very similar interview after UFC 204, where he’s scheduled to fight Iuri Alcântara in Manchester, England. Pickett, who was initially slated to fight at ‘UFC Hamburg’ on September 3rd, however a back injury forced him out of the fight.
