UFC fighter Brandon Royval has revealed his frustration at being put on the prelims for his fight against Matheus Nicolau last weekend. In a win that earned him Performance of the Night honors, Brandon Royval knocked Matheus Nicolau out in Kansas City. He did so thanks to a vicious knee, followed by a string of nasty elbows. As a result of his win, he’s now considered to be the number one contender for the UFC flyweight championship. He’s also set to serve as the back-up fighter for the upcoming Brandon Moreno vs Alexandre Pantoja title collision.

The Octagon returned to Missouri for tonight’s UFC Kansas City event, a 14-bout fight card headlined by Max Holloway vs. Arnold Allen. Tonight’s highly anticipated featherweight main event proved to be a competitive back and forth contest. While Arnold Allen definitely proved he is a future contender in the division, Max Holloway put a stamp on his #2 ranking with a solid showing. ‘Blessed’ utilized a heavy volume of strikes to outpoint the Brit for the majority of their twenty-five-minute affair.

Brandon Royval was confident he would be fighting Matheus Nicolau next. After Royval was cleared from his hand injury, he called out both Nicolau and Kai Kara-France as he wanted a top-five opponent. But, once Kara-France told him he was still injured, he turned all of his focus to Nicolau.

Brandon Royval has had a rough ending to 2022. Royval kicked off the year in January with a decision win over Rogerio Bontorin and then submitted Matt Schnell in May. He was then booked to face Askar Askarov in October but the Russian botched his weight cut and the fight was off.

Brandon Royval will not be fighting at UFC Vegas 66 on December 17. Royval was set to return to the Octagon at UFC Vegas 66 against Amir Albazi in a pivotal flyweight fight. Unfortnately, the American took to Instagram on Tuesday to reveal he is out of his scrap due to an injury. Yet, even with that, Royval is confident he will become the flyweight champ in 2023.

Brandon Royval isn’t a fan of Askar Askarov and his style. Royval has taken shots at Askarov in the past saying the Russian is boring and all he does is hold people up against the fence and win decisions. Brandon Royval thinks Rogerio Bontorin tapped in their fight at UFC Vegas 46. Royval was entering the fight on a two-fight losing streak and looking to get back into the win column in a big way. In the fight against Bontorin, it was a back-and-forth fight but in the third round, Royval had Bontorin in an armbar it appeared the Brazilian tapped.

MMA coach Marc Montoya had to pop in the shoulder of Brandon Royval after he suffered an injury TKO loss to Brandon Moreno at UFC 255. Royval took on Moreno in the featured prelim of UFC 255, with the winner of the fight getting a title shot against the winner of the main event between Deiveson Figueiredo and Alex Perez. Moreno was favored to defeat Royval, but after he beat Tim Elliott and Kai Kara-France as an underdog in his first two UFC bouts, Royval was a savvy underdog pick by many bettors to take out Moreno. Unfortunately for Royval, he suffered an injury loss.
