Brendan Schaub tells Colby Covington haters to 'grow up'

Tom Taylor - December 19, 2019

Colby Covington is arguably the most polarizing fighter in MMA today. While he’s certainly got his fair share of fans, he’s also got legions of haters, and those haters have been very vocal since he lost to Kamaru Usman at UFC 245. Former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub, who now makes his living as an analyst and podcaster, believes Covington’s haters need to give it a rest. He feels that, because Covington’s persona is manufactured, fans should go a little easier on him.

Fernando Quiles - November 21, 2019

Brendan Schaub is giving Ben Askren props for giving it a shot with the UFC. Askren wrapped up his MMA career after going 1-2 under the UFC banner. “Funky” cited needing to undergo hip replacement surgery as the reason for his decision. While Askren’s UFC run may not have been a total success, his reigns as the Bellator and ONE Championship welterweight ruler haven’t gone unnoticed.

Brendan Schaub says UFC 244 stoppage is best-case scenario for Nate Diaz

Fernando Quiles - November 5, 2019

Former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub doesn’t believe Nate Diaz would’ve pulled off a comeback over Jorge Masvidal. Diaz and Masvidal shared the Octagon this past Saturday night in the main event of UFC 244. The two competed for the one-time-only BMF championship. The bout didn’t end the way most had hoped. The Octagon-side doctor called a halt to the contest before the fourth round could begin due to cuts formed on Diaz’s eyebrow and under his eye. Masvidal was declared the winner.

Brendan Schaub responds to backlash after bashing strawweight division

Thomas Taylor - September 11, 2019

Brendan Schaub didn’t watch the recent UFC Shenzhen card, which was topped by a strawweight title fight between challenger Weili Zhang and champ Jessica Andrade. In fact, in the wake of this UFC Shenzhen main event, which Zhang won by first-round TKO, Schaub went so far as to claim he doesn’t care about the strawweight division. “People are Tweeting me saying ‘Oh what’s up now Schaub, didn’t call Zhang over Jessica Andrade,’” he said on his  Below the Belt podcast recently. “I sure didn’t! Or in the [replies to the] post about my son [people were saying] ‘Oh where the f**k were you on Zhang vs. Andrade?’

Brendan Schaub: 'I don’t give a f**k about women’s strawweight'

Thomas Taylor - September 4, 2019

Former UFC heavyweight turned podcaster Brendan Schaub was not overly sold on last weekend’s UFC Shenzhen card, which was headlined by a women’s strawweight title fight between champ Jessica Andrade and challenger Weili Zhang, but was otherwise pretty lacking in main value. Schaub did not hide his disinterest in this card ahead of time. In the end, UFC Shenzhen turned out to be pretty enjoyable in the eyes of most fans, as Weili Zhang made history by stopping Jessica Andrade in less than a minute to become the first Chinese champion in UFC history. Schaub, however, did not watch the event, and claims to have no regrets about missing Zhang historic victory in China.

Brendan Schaub thinks fans now favor Nate Diaz over Conor McGregor

Fernando Quiles - August 21, 2019

Brendan Schaub feels fight fans are more inclined to root for Nate Diaz over Conor McGregor these days. Despite being away from the Octagon since Aug. 2016, Diaz’s popularity never waned. The Stockton native finally returned to action at UFC 241 to the roar of those in attendance inside the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Not only did Diaz defeat Anthony Pettis, but he also proved to be a “needle mover” as UFC 241 set a record for the highest live gate for an MMA event in the state of California with $3,237,032.

Brendan Schaub trashes UFC Newark lineup

Tom Taylor - August 2, 2019

Brendan Schaub has never been afraid to call it like he sees it when it comes to the UFC. His latest critique of the promotion concerns Saturday’s UFC Newark card. Outside of the main event, which will pit former interim champion Colby Covington against former undisputed champ Robbie Lawler, Schaub considers the card incredibly weak.

Brendan Schaub feels Cris Cyborg hasn’t been given the respect she deserves. Cyborg recently competed in the last fight of her UFC deal. She took on Felicia Spencer in the co-main event of UFC 240 this past Saturday night (July 27). Spencer was able to hang on until the final horn, but Cyborg earned the unanimous decision victory.

Brendan Schaub: JDS was 'scared' to get hit by Francis Ngannou

Fernando Quiles - July 2, 2019

In the main event of UFC Minneapolis this past Saturday night (June 29), dos Santos collided with Ngannou. “Cigano” was going for his fourth win in a row. It didn’t pan out for him as Ngannou scored a first-round TKO victory.

Joe Rogan and Brendan Schaub disagree on Cowboy’s busy schedule

Thomas Taylor - May 28, 2019

Donald Cerrone is known for keeping one of the busiest schedules of any fighter in the UFC. The man they call “Cowboy” once again demonstrated his hyperactivity recently, accepting a fight with top contender Tony Ferguson on just three weeks’ notice — right after a war with Al Iaquinta. UFC commentator Joe Rogan and combat sports podcaster Brendan Schaub don’t seem to agree on whether or not that’s a good idea.

Everyone ready? Here we go. Click. It goes, ‘This service does not work on this device.’ I’m like, ‘Ok, well, that’s not good.’ Try doing it again. Nothing. Try doing it from my phone. Nothing. “ESPN, UFC, I’m trying to give you $80. And then finally I went, ‘Yo, if I don’t figure this out in five minutes… I’m going to turn to the dark side and have to illegally stream this.’ I must’ve got 2,000 DMs with different links. When I clicked on that link, that thing was better quality than I had on my f*cking… Than ever!
